I've gone shares with two tools a loooong time ago.

A mixture setting transparent spark plug substitute......
They called it "Colourtune", which is catchier.

And an SPQR tappet adjuster. I can't remember now who I went halves with, but I don't have either. Luckily I don't need either. But I only lend tools to SiL.

Got to return it!

I have loaned out lots of things over the years - and guess what, not got any back. From tools to books etc I think the problem is that I would say .."Aww let me have it back when you have finished with it".Rather than say - next week please.

Worse still loaned our horse trailer to a pal and it came back with a mudguard torn off - not just marked...off!

He tried to deny it which was even worse.

He did ask for it another time - and got a short two letter reply.

BTW we are still pals! Amazingly! laugh2

Two things you never loan out, your chainsaw and your wife. As they inevitably will both come back screwed

Take the borrowed tool back with a thank you present.
I have "lost" two fishing books loaned to a work colleague who left while I was on holiday. GRRRR.
Dave...I still have a Colourtune tucked away in a drawer in the garage. Unopened for many years. I also nearly bought an SPQR tappet adjuster too but held off.
When playing rugby one of the team was always borrowing kit to play. In the end we all refused on the match day and he had to drop out. We had tipped off a replacement who stepped in. He was not picked again until he bought his own kit( boots, shorts, socks).

I loaned an electric planer that had very little prior use to a neighbour a number of years ago. It was returned with the carbide blades all chipped and a chunk out of the outer cable flex. He didn't even offer to replace the damaged parts.Never again! You live and learn as they say. 😬

I have both, the Colourtune is of use on my vintage Sunbeam, the SPQR has not been used in 20 years.
One of the offshore crane drivers did an extra week for his back to back to be paid back later. During his 2 weeks off the "borrower' was sacked & the company would not pay for the extra week as it was a private arrangement.
