The rational choice for howard would be an Aero-chassis Plus 8, much more comfort than a Trad and the same traditional looks. They are much rarer than most of the Aero 8 Series cars and thus residuals are strong and likely to rise, particularly with the anniversary of 50 years of the Plus 8 next year. However, as we all know howard's views on cars are pretty subjective and thus the buying process for his next car may well resemble Russian roulette!  We await the final choice with interest... Maybe we should open a book on the possible make, anybody willing to fill in the odds? - Lotus (must be favourite?)2/1

- Ginetta 75/1
- Noble 10/1
- BMW i8 5/1
- None of the above... Even money We can sit back and watch now.

I think you're all wrong. Howards comments on my car were just an attempt to hide the fact that he'd become fed up driving around in a bland red car made by an off shoot of Fiat and was yearning for something with a little more spirit. I'm guessing we'll see a a brightly coloured Series 5 aero going into the paint shop soon.

That's sound advise too - we had a Bookies shop in Dartmouth and the owners name was Blewit - he ran an XJS with a similar number plate.

Followed a Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead today, all in black with black wheels! - the number plate was IOU... Maybe something like this is the answer to the dilemma?

If I didn't have the 4 seater and a family who occasionally want a ride out and wanted a bit of fun and to tinker and a ride around in for a year or so and not lose much money, I'd go for an early 2000's 4/4 with the 1.8 black top Zetec A lowish Mileage one in great condition, all aluminium, galv chassis can be got for between £20-£27K Williams have a super cute yellow one up for £25,995 You can buy a brand new whole engine on eBay for £700ish if anything goes wrong but all bits are pretty reliable and most other bits can still be bought through various suppliers and dealers I'd take the windscreen off, put aero screens on - have a good three zip tonneau cover made and tootle around come rain or shine and enjoy Then when bored, sell it on - cheap Morgan motoring And miles and miles of smiles from everyone Doesn't fulfil any of your criteria Howard Thank God It fulfills quite a number as it happens. Colour / cheap motoring / tonneau / galv chassis plus ally - no rust / sensible spares prices from Ford.

- None of the above... Even money You have spotted my favourite - Lotus but sadly they dont make an open car bigger than the Elise. Both Ginetta and Noble are a bit too basic and Caterfield like - I want leather seats and aircon and preferably flappy padles if possible. No way would I consider an I8. So the present short list is wildly varied: Evora (n handles better than the rest) Plus 4 ( quirky temporary hold over) F355 ( its just before all the electronics etc) California ( get the grandkids in it and DCT and hard roof) and I suppose I have to add in the sensible - Boxter. Do I really want to do sensible? Do I hell as like. It was the right decision to sell but I miss the Fezza so I shall sit back and do nothing for a few months.
