Starting to get a mid life Aero itch and the need for speed as Tom Cruise used to say - or was it Charlie Sheen?

Anyway, while the Plus 4 seems to be retaining its value with retail prices for similar 2010 models about the same as I paid, wondered about a nearly new Aero at say £95k or £100k.

We all know cars can lose money, but it would be nice not to take a £10k or £20k hit.

Think older Aeros are trending around their initial purchase price (not sure) but just been reading one of the classic car mags featuring Morgan history (check it out at the newsagent).

On the Aero page - the journo was talking up the early series prices.

Wondered if, with a limited (100 is it?) model run, depreciation risk might be minimal although a 911 R bump would be nice thank you very much.

Also running cost - thinking £530 tax + £600 ins + £600 service (guestimate) on 3000 mile p.a.

Also, is it one year warranty or three?

Life is short and we need to satisfy our car needs!!

For a £100k car if you have to ask, you cannot afford it.

No one has a scooby do what prices of these cars will be like in say 5 years time.

If you can afford and want the car buy it! Do not believe any nonsence about what it will be worth in say 5 years time as no one knows.

So my feel is that you will not lose money.
I think you are safe on your numbers and possibly a little high if it is well maintained already. If it has had the usual glitches done already then you should be good.

Series 1 was most produced and had a few more burps to cure as well as being a bit older now. Series 2 was rare and had a couple of the niggles reduced (gearbox/brakes, roof and trim improvements)
1 & 2 probably have a little paint bubbles now as they are getting on (12-16 years old)
Series 3 and 4 were both low volume and had further improvements so should be better from a "set right" cost point of view

Age and milage is not really the point, service and some regular usage is.

Worst case is you buy one and then after a couple of years go back to a more sensible trad ? Or lose your sensible marbles altogether and go M3W.

Best to assume your going to lose £20-25k in the short term. If you keep it long term you could be lucky and get your money back.

If you feel like doing it do it but as they are only expensive toys like us all you have to be prepared for another crash in prices, which is due any time now. The longer look is always the thing to focus on and I'd be surprised if you lost money on one of these as they are likely to be the last V8 powered machines after 50 years .

Test drive will do it , either a manual or paddleshift , if you can get out at the end of the drive and not be stunned then don't buy one !

I bought a used Plus 8 (Aero) in late 2014 and it is still worth what I paid for it.

IF you can find a late S4 or Supersport, and they are "rather rare" I doubt you will lose much, if anything, on it over time. After an initial depreciation about equivalent to the VAT they seem to depreciate at about the rate of inflation.

Insurance depends very much on where you live. In salisbury I pay a lot less than that through Gott and Wynn for unlimited mileage and with an agreed value.

Servicing has been about £425 from Williams, excluding wear parts. The big one is at 60,000 miles when the plugs need changing, so bonnet, cowl and wings off....
The S1 Aeros are much more costly as the wings have to come off for an oil change, the later 4.8L motors are like any other.

If you're buying nearly new make sure it's got some miles on the clock and plenty of warranty left.

All the aeros need to be drive to be appreciated but if its been a garage queen it may prove expensive in the long run.

I'm on my 3rd on now. First was a series 2, two previous owners both TM members. I was new to TM at the time didn't know the history but took a punt. 3 years and 25k miles and I came out about even on it.

Second was a S4 better car in many ways 4 years and from memory just over 40k on the clock. I'd bought this one from new as it was one of the last S4's . I was down about £15-£20k on the car. Which I didn't think was bad given how much SWMBO cars had depreciated over the same period.

The latest one we'll have to wait and see. It coming up for 1 year old and have done 11,000 miles.

If you can afford buy new and get what you want. You hear far to many stories of people waiting for things and life doesn't work out how they hoped and it never happens.
