You need to see how you fit. I've only driven an S5 and as a short arse, the pedals were too far away and the steering wheel too close. So I needed elbow room and there wasn't enough.
I couldn't live with that driving position.
The Aero Plus 8 has more elbow room so might be better.
Maybe the pedals can be moved back with a bit of engineering design. I don't think they are adjustable?

Dave, the pedals on my series 3 had been "adjusted" at the factory, apparently they did that in those days if requested!

I bought a pre owned series 3 with low mileage, ran it for 3 years, kept the mileage reasonable, sold it back to the dealer for the same as I bought it.

No regrets over the aero, amazing car!!

On a car round the 100k mark a dealer would be looking for a gross margin of 15k so even if you bought today and sold back tomorrow you would lose that much plus the depreciation of turning a new car into a used car. The old rule used to be that you lose the car tax and vat as you drive out of the showroom.

So you are in effect hoping that second hand prices will rise to compensate for these losses. As Eddie from Aberdeen points out, no one knows. Alistair reckons they will go up - ask hi if he will guarantee this.

Nor is rarity any sort of guarantee. There are lots of rare cars that arent worth a lot yet the likes of the E type or big Healey never were rare.

My conclusion, having gone this way recently, is that you need to be able to mentally write off the car money wise the moment you buy it. You spend 100k - anything you get back is lucky. If the 100k is most or even a significant part of your spare cash, dont go down that route.

A Ferrari isnt an Aero and vice versa but I dont think that the costs will be wildly different so I have sent you some details by email / pm. For your eyes only please.

Final comment. I always found at work that people asked to forecast the next year or two simply forecasts based on the last year or two. If times were good, the future would be good. If we were in bad times, so the future would be bad. The danger here is that because prices for "special" cars have been rising strongly, people believe they will do so in future. But thats not the real world. A pal with a Ferrari 328 bought it a few years ago for 20k and now sees them advertised at 80k. Another pal has an AC Aceca which he believes is worth 300k and an XK150 for similar money. To me that is bubble territory and bubbles burst. What no one can tell you is when they will burst.

I think it's 30 months - but worth double checking.

My view is that as long as you're not being irresponsible by spending money that should be spent on other things, then go for it, buy a new one. We're all at that age when we lose friends or serious illness can strike - so fulfilling experiences are worth having.

Whilst interest rates are so low values will hold.

ETA there were over 72,000 E-Types made (S1, S2 and S3). That's why they're 'only' £200k for a decent S1 and probably not going a whole heap further.

I have to agree with the sentiments expressed by all here. If you can afford it and it makes you happy, go for it. At our "young age" you owe it to yourself to experience every thing you want. You know all the old sayings about shrouds etc.

With the agreement of the Memsahib, I have enjoyed many cars that at the time were "the one", then another shiny brute comes along and I get all silly again but you only regret the things you don't do ( generally )

On our last trip to Italy in June, the village we were staying had a large church upon which was a Latin phrase which when translated said " Time is short"
I think that says it all, good luck with whatever you do.

Thinking back I wrote my post above from the perspective of a pensioner - capital rich ( in a small way!) and income poor. If you have a six figure income or can put the new car through your business without borrowing then I dont see the worry about losing 10k or 20k. You can replace the capital. You cant do that with the active years you lose waiting until Aero prices are lower.

So if thats the case - go for it!.

I'm going to try and put a slightly different perspective on this for you. I've had my S5 now 9 months. I had an S3 prior to this that I sold in 2015 just after ordering my S5.

The "new" experience has not been great to say the least. I was limited to when I could drive the car in the first two months as one of the head lights did not work and I've been limited again ever since when I can drive it because counter to all the marketing around the S5 being the most water tight Morgan ever.....mine wasn't!!! I had a half inch gap at the rear of the driver side window so driving in the rain or washing the car became......difficult and annoying (given I'd spent £105k). The car was taken in three time to fix this issue without resolve.

Summer came, days became hot and the air conditioning did not work - a leak somewhere.

So I've been pretty peeved to say the least as there have been other issues along the way too. I picked my car back up from the factory last Tuesday and finally everything seems fixed. On the drive home the car seemed planted and drove like a dream.

I've seriously been thinking of selling the car and moving away from Morgan. This was a car I'd waited the best part of 20 years for (a new Aero when I could afford one) and the experience was disappointing to say the least. My wife has supported me in selling it as she can see how disappointed I've been. So I've been looking at the new Mercedes GT Roadster or possibly an Aston Martin.

NOW......here's the crunch.......I will not sell it. Not because I will lose money and not because the experience is now hopefully going to get better. It's because as nice as those other cars are.......they are not an Aero 8. They are not unique and they live a sea of ubiquitous shaped super cars that people will glance at, and then look away, because they see them and their shape every day. An Aero, people glance at and keep looking....and then they walk up to you and talk. Put simply, an Aero is for life.....not just for retirement! :-)

Finally the driving experience of an Aero cannot be surpassed in my view. Like many on here I've been lucky enough to own and drive some fantastic motor cars and unique as many are, Aero's are out there on their own - In four weeks time I fly in a Spitfire....something tells me the experience will be similar to my first drive in an Aero - it lives with you.

The Aero is staying. Do it.
