I've never really bothered calculating before but I've just topped up with Shell V Power 98 Octane after our trip to Buxton for MOG mmX and am pleasantly surprised. 1991 +4 M Type with Rover 2 Litre twin-cam engine and a reasonably heavy right foot!  43.41 Miles per gallon

Well Done the +4. I have been keeping a spreadsheet from New due to faulty fuel gauge (now fixed)  The Roadster 100 has averaged 29.2mpg since its first fill up over 1364 miles. The highest period was 38.18mpg The Buxton Trip (yes. we were there)average was 30mpg so that, it would appear is as good as it gets.

Frank, only a retired person with time to spare keeps a fuel record. don't forget if your speedo is say 10% optimistic, your trip recorder will be also, which means you haven't covered as many miles as you thought...

My '98 +4 T16 consistently ran mid to high 30s. Best was a 'quick' run to Curborough for the Sprint Taster Day (I was running late, so skipped the A435) - virtually 43 mpg keeping close to 3000 rpm in top wherever possible... Kept a book in the car to log miles / fuel (and yes going by the mileometer is not a wholly accurate figure but gives a good idea if things are deteriorating). And no - I'm not retired, though it is a nice thought  ... Cheers,

When I've checked my Mog's speedo's against the speed shown on the TomTom, usually it reads nearly 10% fast.  This alters the mpg figures produced tremendously!

Mileometer and speedometer are not necesarily both overreading. The older 'mechanical' head units had different internal drive mechanisms with the mileometer mechanically driven by gears (no reason for inaccurate measurement), where the speed reading was done magnetically, and is adjustable. The speedo on RTA reads slow (yes, I know, illegal, but I suspect it's a function of age - I feel slower nowadays too  ), but the mileometer is reasonably accurate. I know the electronic mileometers are also separate from the speed reading - the trip meter on my +4 did not agree with the main mileometer :shocked:. The only way to check is against measured road distances and these can be wildly inaccurate too . Cheers,

My 4/4 electronic speedo, compared to my Garmin, is almost exactly correct at most speeds. This is important for a different reason of course - I can't rely on speedo error to keep me safe from speed traps. When I last checked my 4/4 (1800 zetec) brim to brim I got 42mpg. NIgel
