Hi,
I'm after some recommendations for a nice Morgan friendly place to stay in the Loire valley en route to Angouleme. East of Tours methinks. We'll be driving Caen to Confolens as usual but avoiding the autoroute.

My alternative is to find a nice place for lunch in the same area then just press on to reach our house in the evening.

Thanks
Nick

Hi Nick, why not join us in the Hotel de France in la Chartre sur le Loir http://www.lhoteldefrance.fr definitely petrolhead friendly, the sort of Logis that you thought had disappeared, fantastic motoring heritage, lovely village, very reasonable rates etc, etc. We're staying there in between Chantilly and Angoulême, from 11th to 14th, travelling down to Angoulême on the Thursday, sounds like it'll be on some of the route you describe, autoroute to Châtellerault, then the old tourist road following the Vienne to Confolens and finally Angoulême. You'd better get your booking in quickly as I saw the other day that the Hotel de France is being used by one of the travel companies for their package deal to the Circuit des Remparts. It's worth ringing the hotel, we booked at the beginning of the year and the online booking was showing full for the dates we wanted but in fact there were vacancies, best of luck!

Alastair,

A good plan but thwarted :-) - but thanks. We would have been staying on 9th September for one night only - as we will be en route to our house just outside Confolens.

Karen has decided on a plan B - which is a nice long lunch at a posh chateau near Tours and a late arrival home.

But I am interested on the old tourist road - I hadn't thought of that route but it's a brilliant idea. Is that Chatellerault, Chauvigny, past the crocodiles, Lussac, L'Isle Jourdain and then what? Would you go East of the river or west past the Val de Vienne circuit?

Cheers
Nick

After L'Isle Jourdain, I was thinking of due south to Confolens, maybe west of the river, it looks prettier and might have a look at the Val de Vienne circuit if there's time, then alongside the Vienne on the D16, then finally SW along the N141 to Angoulême itself. I must admit that I'm just going by the map for most of it, but I spent a lot of time with a family in Chatellerault when I was a lad and we often used to go down the old tourist road, it was very quiet and picturesque.

But a house in Confolens, now that's a dream!

OK... well west of river is prettier. . Didnt know if you had a cunning c road route.
I'm told the circuit restaurant is extremely good but not been yet.

L'isle jourdain worth a stop to walk over viaduct plus nice tea from Number 10 in the town square.

I'll pm you about catching up in Angouleme. .. would be good to meet up.
