I have had one of JT's long covers for years and find it to be great. It even fitted the SS100 I had a couple of years back.
It is interesting to read the comment by Philroyale about chaffing. I have never found that but I also noticed that in DaveW's pictures, the cover is held on by cord whereas mine is held by wide elastic straps. Has the design been changed?

The cockpit cover in the photograph was new last year.
You'll see that I've placed the elasticated cords in a way which prevents body contact. At the front, the way to do this is to pass the cords under the door mirrors.

My long cover is from 2009, and has wider elasticated straps. I wouldn't use it on soiled bodywork, although a squirt and wipe of quick detailer in the required places would be OK.
Last time we used it was in North Devon, when we had a good run down, so the car was clean. The next couple of days was heavy rain, and the long cover was invaluable then.

I have got to agree with Phil Royle's findings, I have used it on both Wild Mog trips and noticed chaffing after the Isle of Man trip this year. No issue Spain and Portugal last year. I put the chaffing down to the strong gusting winds from the Irish Sea.
Just a case of choosing the lesser of two evils.
I do like the feeling of having an added security blanket around the car when it is parked up.
I too have the wide elastic straps.

I recently purchased a (short) storm cover from Librands and find that there seems to be a lot of loose material which tends to create puddles of water when it rains. Any ideas how to prevent this or do I just keep fingers crossed that the water doesn't find a way through?

I bought the factory one around four years ago and although like Paul's the wings have peeled a bit it is excellent and very snug (having deflectors underneath it helps with this).

Not cheap but very good.

This year saw the waterproofing all but disappear but as we live close to Manchester it gets a regular dousing!

A quick coat of Fabrisil soon sorted that out.

Like some others I find the MMC cover excellent.

I found a 5' X 10' Nylon tarp for $20US at "Amazon.com". Works OK. Does not look as spiffy as the Made up Covers. But look at the money I saved.

Does anyone have the Walker St Clair cockpit cover - advertised in Miscellany. I note this is cheaper than the John Taylor version and wonder how this compares to this and the others mentioned?

I have owned one since 2005.
Still does the job.
