Must be driving you mad.
Nothing is free from problems with this vehicle, but, the Centa (not Centra Areg) seems far better than the original "solution" to the problem.
Is it the actual solution? Clearly not.
It seems to me that ownership is, and looks likely to continue for some time to come to be one long development program for Morgan. A facet of owning traditional British cars I'd hoped had long since disappeared.
That said it's a sunny morning and I'm going to put these frustrations on hold and take the Brooklands for a blat.
My issue is that after a couple of miles, despite medication, hayfever kicks in. Sneezing in one of these is not advisable if you want to stay on the black stuff. Can't win eh! But that's another story....

LOL, I think I will just drive this and see when it will destroy itself.
Looked at the parts book carefully and it appears that mine cannot be not noisy.
The orchestra plays the same exact tune if I depress the clutch, put the car in gear, or in neutral with the clutch engaged.
I am now collecting pictures of reported cracks to create a to do list of where and what to look for. Kind of wish I could find the pictures easily.
Sad really because my dealer who is about 500 miles away just told me that due to some changes in regulation a few of the four wheel Morgans will be imported to the US.
I would have jumped on one three years ago, but how can I have faith in any Morgan product any more. Sad really.

Areg my dealer fitted the grease nipple at 2400 miles after the compensator was getting a bit noisy at idle. At 9400 miles I had the centa fitted when I had a new chassis. The old one was not giving me concern at that point.

I will have to agree. I have descibed my nippled compensator as "civilized" more than once. A big step up from the original version. I was happy with it, even.

It did, however, disintegrate a couple of weeks ago, and will be replaced by a Centa unit.

I miss my car...

Areg, I hope that your HD compensator lasts a long time more for you.

But it all comes down to lubrication and materials.

The comp that's used on your M3W does not last when used in a flooded oil environment of the Harley primary system, and a smaller motor with a lot less load. So I truly believe that it's really not if, but when yours is going to give way.

Here is a link that I posted some time ago with pictures of a M3W comp with around 5k miles on it.

Even with the grease fitting on the main chamber of the compensator housing, you're NEVER going to get grease all the way through the very tightly packed sprocket to the rear where the splined crank hub slides into the compensator.

As I stated in the posting, when this wears it directly releases tension on the Bellville washer pack on the outboard end of the package. The spring pack cannot stand to lose any compression or it allows the two triple ramps to rotate further and further until the whole thing basically comes loose and rattles like crazy.

When they get noisy and you refill, or pack them with grease through the zerk fitting, all you're really doing is packing the two triple ramps creating some friction with the grease and just slowing things back down, but for them to rattle, there's already signs of wear that you cannot get back with just refilling with grease.

I do wish you good luck limping along with what you have, but as they say, the hand writing is on the wall. Start saving your pennies for the Centa conversion, probably sometime soon.

With all of the issues over the short so far life of the new M3W, I've given lots of thought to the compensator issues.

There are lots of items available, but none of the manufacturers will commit to its use in this application.

Here is what I've found that "might" be an alternative. The picture shows it as a three sided coupling, but the Love Joy LF22 is actually a four point flexible coupling. Unlike the original BMW/Mercedes rear driveshaft "flex" coupling, the Love Joy coupling has a max angle wind-up of 7.5 degrees in each direction. This would be very similar to the HD compensator. I'm thinking that from what I've seen on the Centa comp, the Centa may have a bit more wind-up, hence why Phil has been experimenting with his more limited squish inserts.

CLICK HERE FOR THE LOVE JOY LF22 SPEC SHEET

I believe that just one of these inside the bell housing with the appropriate mating adapters would be usable.

If you did the axial attachments into a plate splined and mounted onto the S&S flywheel and then extended the flywheel stub shaft all the way to be the radial mounting on the center of the Love Joy, I believe that may be a good solution. But it would take some basic engineering to get things right. It should fit inside the existing bell housing size wise.

The replacement Love Joy LF22 goes for around $200. So if needed, a replacement would not be overly expensive.

But I guess at this time there are WAY more Centa comps running great without the rubber rods breaking apart. So the Centa may be a good "enough" solution.

Just some food for thought.

Thank you guys, I am at a point of doing absolutely nothing and see what luck has in store for me.
Back in 99 I wanted a cruiser bike and since I had heard bad assessments of Harley Davidson I bought the BMW's R1200C.
It was a BMW so had to be reliable right? Wrong the worst P.O.S. I have ever owned.
In 2002 I bought a Harley Softail Deuce, just celebrated it's 15th birthday. Just over 30K miles on it nothing has ever broken or gone wrong.
I also had a 2004 Harley V-rod for eight years and the same story.
It sounds as if the grease nipple is not such a hot deal anyway.

Great statement - I've still got my 2003 Anniversary Deuce and true, I believe it to be the best bike harley made. It handles well and is an absolute joy. However my BMW K1200GT bought to tour Europe was the best/worst bike I've ever owned - never fulfilling its ultimate motorcycle advert - Never gone back to BMW since.

atalante83, you are one of the very lucky one's. I was one of the early members of R1200C club in S. California and we ended up becoming a very big group so I know first hand what percentage had serious issues although very reluctant to admit publicly and never ever in front of a Harley owner. That bike was intended to show Harley how to make cruisers smile
Since you mentioned it, I think the Bond film may have been my introduction to the R1200C.

BMW did not have much luck showing Honda how to make a big bike with reverse gear either.
For me BMW cars yes, the bikes never.

Well at last I managed to pull this one off.
A Bosch multipurpose Carbide drill bit was able to penetrate.

I started off with a 1/8" then something that would be OK for a 1/4 20 tap.

If you do this be very careful because you can easily break the tap. Also you need to go in a little and then grind the head of the tap off as there is very little clearance between the body of the compensator and the internals.

I used Redline Synthetic Moly grease. Again it needs only a small amount, do not be fooled by the size of the compensator. Apply very carefully in order not to breach the seal that I was informed by my dealer the compensator has.

Conclusion? A very hard road but well worth it because that early morning sound is gone.
