I want to take issue with Mr. Gobal warming is a hoax Trump. It is far too hot to drive the Roadster at the moment -and I am usually a heat junkie- unless well past 8pm. The footwell heat is fine with the vents closed but the air temperature is not. So it looks like a car for late Autumn, Spring and Winter when it has so far proved to be perfect. Who would have thought it.

Who would have thought it. As to your particular problem, we have the reverse, it is to cold and wet to go out in the Mog. The Shetland Isles have better weather than the South Coast! Climate change is real, scientifically proven and there is NOTHING we can do to change what is happening. Man made Global Warming is another matter: our impact, particularly the role of CO2, can be measured but there is NO verifiable proof that it has made much difference to Climate Change. All the so called evidence is circumstantial.

Man made Global Warming is another matter: our impact, particularly the role of CO2, can be measured but there is NO verifiable proof that it has made much difference to Climate Change. All the so called evidence is circumstantial. Empirical data from NASA and others not good enough for you then, Peter? We know that human activity has massively increased the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. There's no doubt about this, it has been confirmed by multiple empirical studies. We know that Carbon Dioxide, along with Methane and Ozone, is the major contributor to warming through surface radiative forcing,as measured by Evans et al in 2006: We can also empirically measure the amount of long wavelength radiation leaving the Earth, and this data clearly shows that the amount of heat being retained due to CO2 matches the decrease in radiation: That's the data which proves the case in my view. We can measure the amount of heat retained by our increasing the levels of greenhouse gas in the atmosphere, and we can match that with the data that shows that it's affecting overall heat loss. Ergo, it's our CO2 emissions that are driving global warming. So now we need to consider how much contribution this is making to overall climate change. We know that over geological time periods, the climate has changed back and forth, driven mostly by changes in atmospheric CO2, Methane, and Ozone, leading to episodes like the medieval warm period, periodic ice ages, and so on. But we also know that these changes happened largely over extended time periods, meaning that species had time to adapt to and survive them. And we also know that when we had sudden dramatic changes in atmospheric CO2, like in the Permiam and Triassic periods, we had mass extinctions. Furthermore we know that humans are increasing CO2 levels in the atmosphere far faster than any of these natural processes ever managed. So our actions are precipitating a rapid change, at a similar scale to those which we know before have had catastrophic results. It may well be that we've left it too late to be able to do anything about it, the current predictions are implying that we can expect to see Wet-bulb temperatures in excess of 35C within a couple of decades in places like India. At this temperature, there's no point even a healthy human sitting still in shade, they will be dead in 6 hours regardless. If this is the case, the next mass extinction will be of humans. I haven't got any children or grandchildren, so I'm quite relieved I won't be confronted with them asking me "Why didn't you do something about it when you had the chance?"

like not poluting the atmosphere with Morgan, LR defender, R4 and a tractor?🤔
Only joshing but we all complain, worry or get hot and bothered about facts from all the arguments then leap into a car without giving it a thought.
look at the polution we used to have from all the factories and the london smog. China and India are going through industrial revolutions as well. Aeroplane travel is on a huge expansion curve so much so that uk airspace is struggling to cope.
Not sure the dinosaurs did any of this - or what caused the ice age - perhaps the earth is self cleansing and we will enevitably be a casualty of it?

Only joshing No, it's a fair challenge. I certainly could do more to reduce my carbon footprint, but as I don't have any kids, don't fly anywhere, use 100% green electricity and gas, eat food with minimal food miles, and recycle absolutely everything I can I feel I'm giving it a fair shot. There's a limited amount any one of us can do to help (or at least not make the situation any worse), and the way I see it it's between each of us and our consciences to arrive at a way through that enables us to sleep at night.

In reply the original comment (unusual on TM, of course..) I watched the weather on Aunty this morning & the current heatwave in the northern Med areas is unparalleled it seems. Temps of 40 degrees plus and no rain for many weeks will take it's toll, not least on open top car driving. We Brits love this sort of thing, don't we..? We giggle and hope for some real summer weather and yet wishing hours we're all going 'Phew..!' and expecting thunderstorms..!! The whole global warming thing seems just so logical an effect that there has to be truth in the amount of causation factors, but the real unfairness is in how to control those factors. Limiting car emissions just scratches the surface, when China, Russia, half of the rest of the world plus now the USA seem quite content to carry on regardless. Add this to the ever increasing pile of man made, non-compostable packaging and the human race really is a mess. Mixed with the utterly puerile self obsessed culture we're fed on a daily basis, religion and other dermot that passes for controlling the masses in the guise of 'reality', I'm sure of only one thing: The more I look at the world, the more I love my dog and animals.. PS - And my Morgan of course..

Too hot to drive the Mog so may I not contribute any CO2 emissions today but save the world and do nothing but stay in the pool.

What seems to be forgotten in all this, is the fact that the world does not have enough oxygen creating plants. The destrution of rain forests and jungles...the curse of the chain saw.

If the destruction of our planets rain forests was able to be halted or reversed I'm sure we would see an improvement, but don't forget the planet has been heating up since the ice age. Worthers +8

Worthers +8 And also do not forget that back in the 1970s climatologists were confident that by 2030 we would be in the midst of a "little ice age". Why? Because the output from the sun has much more impact on our climate than most eco climatologists wish to accept. The sun works in cycles and one, known as the Maunder Minimum occurred in the 17th century and lasted between 50 and 60 years. During this time, winters were colder: for example the River Thames, which usually flows through London, notoriously froze over. The ice was so thick that people could walk from one side to the other. However, the citizens that lived in freezing, 17th century Europe survived..just. So, it may be the case that by adding CO2 to the atmosphere over the last 100 years all we have done is prevented a bigger catastrophe that was due in 2030 and expected to last 30 to 40 years. Even so we must work to reverse the CO2 build up as once the sun returns to full power, about the end of this century the world will get hot, with unpleasant results.
