 I think this one of mine might need a little more air. Cracked sidewalls maybe..? Soaks up water, wires rust unseen, heat build up produces increase in air pressure, tyre goes Boom! Check the ends of the wires for rust. Glad you're ok. PS, wipe the seat squabs too after that..!

I was waiting behind a chap putting air in tyres at the local supermarket.
He seemed to be taking ages and the tyres did not look flat to start.
I went to see what he was doing he was putting 4 bar into his tyres !
Which is about 54 psi !

Bet he was a "hypermiler"!
That is one of the things they do to reduce rolling resistance. I bet the centres of his tyres wear a lot too.

I used to religiously keep my pressure to the 22psi stated in the handbook. But after being advised by a number of people involved in racing morgans that the handling is better with slightly higher pressures suggesting 24psi I have compromised and am trying 23psi all-round. I'm glad you've posted that, I thought I must be imagining it. On my 4/4, I felt like I was going to pull the tyres of the walls at the recommended pressures and there was an uncomfortable shift from the rear with quick changes of direction. I've got all four at 27psi (on a calibrated PCL inflator) and the handling in the dry is pin sharp and sweet. It's still rubbish in the wet but it's safer than it was. Ride comfort seems fine to me, even on the rare occasion when I'm just dawdling along.

I tried 27 psi but ride became very bumpy and my car lost handling comfort.
24 to 25 psi seems to be the optimum on mine.

When you change from 18 to 22 your notice a great improvement in steering and handling.

I think the consensus among fellow FellMoggers is that 18 is comfier for tootling around country lanes, higher for faster roads and bezzing (technical term) around at 70

I run at 19 front 21 rear normally, but increase the rear to 23 if fully loaded with a rack on the back.
