Hi all, I'm Trev. I've been signed up and lurking for a few weeks gathering info as I'm hoping to make the move to a Morgan in the not too distant future.

First thought was to get an M3W, as it's only going to be weekend toy, although I would like to do a bit of touring too. I have moved away from that idea slightly, mainly for practicality, but also I get the impression the car is still a little under developed. That brings me nicely to my second thought of either a Plus 4 2.0 Duratec, or a 3.0 Roadster. The roadster is probably more likely (see reasons below), but I've yet to drive either. Any advice, opinions or thoughts are most welcome. I'd be interested to hear from Roadster owners in particular, but as I said already, my mind isn't made up yet.

The car I'm replacing to make the move is a 400ish bhp Maserati and whilst I don't need anything like the top speed that it has, I would like something close (ish) to the grunt and sheer acceleration that it has. It's not imperative, however, as fun is high up on the list.

On our way back from a weekend away in Cornwall on Monday, we popped into Berrybrook, simply taking advantage of both me and Mrs Trevini being there at the same time. If she isn't comfortable then it's a non starter. All credit to Henry at Berrybrook. After being told straight that we weren't looking to buy yet, that we were over 300 miles away from home, so he probably wouldn't get a sale (unless they have what I want used when the time comes) and we were only after some information / let my wife sit in one with the roof up to assess ease of entry/exit, he was an absolute pleasure to speak to. He was very friendly, open and honestly answered my (probably stupid) questions. All in all, very impressed. My local dealer is krazy Horse, who I've heard lots of good things about too, so I reckon that base is covered nicely.

One other thing I discovered in my research is that there's a fairly active local group of enthusiasts (Folk Mog), which is nice. I had a nice exchange of messages via Twitter with a chap called Robert, who seemed very nice and very enthusiastic. I'm hoping to get along to one of their meets at some point to introduce myself and ask more stupid questions. I think it was them that had a track day at Snetterton a few months back. There was a group of Morgan owners there anyway, although I didn't get much chance to chat to any of them.

I have a series 1 3l Roadster & I love it. It has the Mondeo ST220 engine & the Getrag gearbox from a Jag but a £500 road tax bill which happened only for c 2 years.

It has great acceleration when needed but is also very comfortable on long runs.

Folkmog should be a good source of info.

Morgan alos built a later 3 l Roadster with a Ford Escape engine & a transit gearbox It has less power 205 vs 230 bhp and the gearbox I am told is not as good. I have never driven one.

The 2004/5 Roadsters are a lot less. From memory it's £220.

What sort of rpm do the 3.0 models run at to cruise in the 70-80 mph range? I'm thinking mainly for covering ground on euroland motorways to get to nice places to bimble enjoying the scenery. I'm not too fussed about economy, but it'd be nice to have an idea please? I'd assume they'd be in the 30mpg ish sort of area. Any more would be a bonus. I don't tend to drive my cars hard, but with lots of torque and bhp, you don't really need to.

Cruising in a 3.0 litre roadster is very comfortable because there is such a lot of torque. But if the throttle is floored the acceleration is very exciting.
