That would explain it....

Both my old 4/4 and the Roadster does just the same....driven by the electronics module behind the dash I think.

That is the aircon button. If no aircon is fitted it can be used for the fog or driving lights.

"No admittance" always gets me wondering. I've never much liked being told what to do, so this week I obtained a set of security fastener sockets, so that I can get to places which are not allowed.
Those with eagle eyes will note that the bottom row contains the socket which allows access to the box on the bulkhead under which the ECU's lie.

This photo shows a new piece of neoprene wrapped around the electrical connection to the ECU. Just behind it are the two heater drain tubes. Not ideal...........

So the upper drain serves no purpose unless you get over an inch of water in there...................
I fitted the rubber bulb from an eye dropper over the top one, and some drain tube over the lower one. The angle is tight, but this is better than having the heater drain over the ECU box. I can blow through the tube so its not blocked.
I also fitted this drain tube to the Roadster way back. Only one each side though, and two at the front.

I then turned to the other side, and did the same..........
Where there's a lot more room.





I smartened up the two front drains by adding a small length of rubber tube cut at a jaunty angle.



Finally the flow of water in the plastic tank.
First at rest:



Then when revving, the right hand section draws coolant into the engine, whereas the left hand side takes coolant from the engine. Note the flow pattern. Quite interesting.

Where does it drain to ? How long is the draining pipe?

It just goes over the bell housing Neil. On my Roadster I used 90 degree elbows with a short vertical section but in Bumble they just go over the edge.

On a car with aircon it is really important to get this tube draining well because of the accumulation of condensed water from the cooling system. Water runs out of the lower drain tube and can run under the ECU box and from there past the cable grommet and into the footwell.

I have fitted a heavier silicon tube and a neoprene gasket to the ECU box to stop the entry of any water. I left the lower edge of the box without a gasket so that any water that did get past the gasket could drain away or evaporate.

In my opinion the lack of suitable seals and drain tubes is a design fault.

I'm not sure if he posts on here much, but a great friend Daniel Palatuik from France has a 35th anniversary Plus 8 that I reckon would win pretty much any concours competition into which it was entered.

He has replaced his drain tubes with clear plastic tubing, into which he has inserted stainless steel wire coils in order to ensure they don't kink as they do around the various bends. Awesome attention to detail.
