Tissot auto bought for me by many years ago. It had a clean/new glass/crown 2years ago.
Also a Seiko quartz for everyday use, bought as part of a his/hers pair on a cruiseship in 2001 as a combined present.
I also have a gold Waltham pocketwatch , Albert chain with a couple of pendants on it. Passed down from my grandfather. It went to France with him in WWI and one pendant is a silver heart in a gold mount given by my grandmother to him before he went. 1915 scribed on it.The Waltham was a replacement and not expensive.
It works well but is rarely used, usually on formal dress-up functions.

Casio F - 91W for me. I'm surprised nobody's mentioned it before. Time (12 or 24 hour), date, timer, alarm, day, little light to read it by at night and water resistant. Just come out of the washing machine and still working. A classic. Actually, I do get the beauty and engineering of those expensive watches but I would just lose it or break it or get it covered in something. And I'm also not particularly rich any more so need any money I have for guitars and fuel.

I dont wear a watch. My stomach tells me when its lunchtime or dinner time and I go to sleep when I am tired.

I'm sure Simon's father was right in his time. Today I'd suggest it's more a case of "Beware the man with a £2000 suit and a £200 watch - because he's a vain fool"

Why? because of the impact of technology on current price and future value.

Once upon a time, a bespoke hand-made suit was the only way to get good cutting, detailing and a good fabric like an Italian 100s superfine wool. Nowadays, automated laser cutting and production has brought the price right down - even to £200 if you don't mind an M&S label or internet tailor.

On the other hand, a watch with a proper automatic chronometer movement can't be made well more cheaply.

So in five years time a £2000 suit will be worth the same as a £200 suit.. i.e. nothing. Whereas a £2000 watch could be worth something, maybe in excess of its purchase price or even its inflation-adjusted purchase price.

My Dad would say " How much!!??"

And how many of them are currently telling the same time?

I have had a Tissot chronometer for some years.
If I were looking for a watch that specifically reminds me of my 4/4 I would look for one that leaks oil.
