Dave, Well that sums up Rolex's. They make so many of them that they border on common, rather like Porsche. You have to admire the quality but not the ubiquity.

Lowebird, any chance of a pic of the Garrick Morgan? Sounds interesting! Would that I could but there is a picture somewhere on one of the many watch threads that a clever TM'er managed to get when I had it posted whilst at the Saatchi Gallery for the watch show SQ.

O.K. I've been down this track a couple of times but I'm game. I am very much with Steve T in that you can't have too many mechanical watches. I have:- Carlo Ferrara Quadro Regolatore Vogard Black F1 Panerai Luminor Marina Pierre De Roche Splitrock Concentric Crono Marcus Richard Mille Hypo Garrick Morgan ( only one in the world ) You have some crackers there Reg! Very nice Thanks Steve, I know you would appreciate them from your collection. The Memsahib however, doesn't get it but as I have just sold my traction engine, I feel another purchase coming on. Marcus is moving his shop from Bond St to Berkley Sq and it will have a nice quiet area for contemplation.

I wouldn't mind a Sentinel steam lorry either. You could have lots of fun on the road with one of them............

I'm not actually a huge fan of what Rolex the brand has now become but I did find this article very interesting I posted the link before on last year's watch thread but for those that might be interested https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/inside-rolex

Dave, Well that sums up Rolex's. They make so many of them that they border on common, rather like Porsche. You have to admire the quality but not the ubiquity. That seems to me to be a very fair comparison. As these high end marks increase volume, they lose the cachet of exclusivity, and many of their customers buy them for just that exclusivity. "If anyone can be a member of this ckub then it isnt worth joining" There was nothing driving wise that my Ferrari could do that an equivalent Porsche could not or even, god forbid, a Merc SLS or BMW M3. But Ferrari has the name and that allows them to charge double the price the others can manage. However, they are in real danger of going down the Rolex slippery slope.

The watch choice have nothing to do with a Morgan (at least in my humble eyes), i own several classic watch like a Breitling Class J , or a Jaeger Lecoultre Reverso, Omega & several others, i guess the eccentric one will own and wear a Frank Muller, the Sportsman a Panerai at least is how they are classified by some expert (or pretending to be).
I really don't think a Morgan driver can be classified so easily by the "marketer"
