Hi looking to make the most of Australia slackening its rules on self importing the car from next year, does anyone have any thoughts on importing a morgan 3 wheeler themselves or done any research to this effect with the Aus $ now climbing above 60 cents seems like there could be considerable savings to made M

Yes just wait till the full effect of Brexit is felt ... Morgan pricing will remain high as they are better placed than the other English car assemblers however the pound is looking a bit sus

Good to see you on TM Murph. There has been much discussion already on this issue downunder Very tricky area as all the rules have yet to be finalised however the Aussie 3W is a very different beast due to Australian compliance requirements. I doubt Morgan UK would sell you one direct and the Australian dealer has to have the opportunity to recoup his cost for time, effort and money spent in getting the car approved in the first place.

I'm pretty sure that the car would still have to comply with the ADRs. You could probably order a car in Euro 4 spec, which has some similaritie to the OZ spec, with high roll bars and then have any other mods made to comply with the ADRs which would then have to be certified by an approved engineer.
Chances are that at the end of the day you would not save much money and you would be pretty much on your own with any of the many warranty issues that are common, and common knowledge, with the M3W.

The proposed new private importing rules for new vehicles from the UK and Japan into Australia are no more. Further details here and MP's media release here. The fate of the Luxury Car Tax, which applies to the M3W, should be known before the end of this year and if removed should bring the Australian price down all things being equal. The possible removal of import tariffs under an FTA or other tax changes could also impact - more information here

The basic 4/4 with no extras now costs more than A$102,000.00..... Its doing wonders for second hand prices
