They were putting together the first prototype for the Aero 8 America when I was in the works last week, but would not let anyone get close enough to look at it. frown2 I am in Malvern again tomorrow to see progress on my own car and will see if I can get some photos. grin2

Re the chrome side vent trims, I also preferred these and asked for them but was told that they had decided to stick with the aluminium trims. nono Again, I may know more after my visit. thumbs

"Ohh yyess" as Churchill would say.

There is no doubting the sound. A friend of mine heard the car from the other side of Sainsburys car park before he saw or recognized me.

Childish? They don't call me the 'throttle blipper' for nothing smile

Chrome side vents are very splangly and american - not very british - but each to his own etc.

Back to sports pipes and I believe that the S1 sports exhuast I have (as shown in Aeromans pic of his green Aero (Kermit)) is the bassiest I've heard.

I thought (though seems I'm wrong as viper has it on his s1) that the 4 pipe version was for S2/3 cars and the 2 pipe version for S1's...

Side pipes have a more 'figher plane' rasp when pushed hard which does sound fantastic.

Anyone know if the rear diffuser can be retrofitted to an S1 (If you get sidepipes fitted as well?)

RTCC just fitted the 4 pipe Librands pipes to my MKI the improved the sound and whole feel of the car tremendously I also drove the MKIII with side pipes while picking mine up there is a totally different feel in the car as you can hear just 4 cylinders at a time although I think that there is a little more base, I think that as a driver the rear pipes sound better. Both rear and side pipes are quiet at idle it is a trate of the BMW engine however the both sound good as the engine is reved up.
The sound aspect for someone not in car is similar it is not as rude as a TVR because it idles so quietly but has a very British Spitfire sound when pushed I think that there is a change of pitch as a side piped car passes as you go from hearing 4 to 8 cylinders. I do think that the loud version of the rear pipes is nice but if you plan to use the car on a track I have heard that they can push the usual noise limits close, they are also nice when you first get in the car or for the first few times you drive it but I am not sure if the sound would not be a bit too much on longer trips or for every day use.

I think if #I used mine every day I'd swap to sidepipes.
Indeed the exhaust I have (twin rear pipes) is rated at 105dB so is not for the feint hearted - but I've not met anyone driving an Aero that I could describe thus..

It did stop me takign the car to VMax though as BRuntingthorpe is rated at 99dB max. If you're planning on a lot of cricuit work get the exhaust checked out in advance for noise levels...

Personalyl I love the loud exhaust - almost as much as I love driving through tunnels at 6000rpm!

Thanks guys, loads of great info. Whilst I love the side pipe look I am loathed to have holes cut in the side of her, what with her history! Looks like its guna be the quad system, cant wait! crazy2

Im afraid I dont have any other interesting pictures from the day, but I do have some videos (only from my camera) taken from the start finish line, Viper I seem to remember a yellow flash in some of them!!! I will dig them out and try to post them?!

I understand your decision Matt, but don't rule out the sports ovals, they do look and sound great. grin2

Today I took some photos at the works, just showing the standard rear silencers and the side-pipe installations, as follows.

The pre-cat common to both systems:

Exposed side-pipes:

The circuitous route round the rear suspension of the rear exit exhausts:

The standard tail-pipe before fitting:

It makes you wonder why one can't just remove these rear silencer tips and just continue the exhaust pipe to the rear of the car with some un-silenced exhaust tips, as the side-pipe exhaust does without this extra amount of silencing, and back-pressure. confused2

Maybe one of the more technically minded members can give an opinion on this. thumbs

The thought had actally crossed my mind to remove the backbox and fit a set of straight pipes and save myself at least a grand...

Or it could be the side pipe installation has a larger silencer box to compensate for the lack of rear ones confused2

We should get some sound files up on the site. I'll try to get a video of my quads, someone else can do the rear sports and also the sides! cheers
