Since just about every other motor manufacturer has managed it, I can't help but agree with you, Peter!

I have a Simmonds hood on my car, and it's completely water tight. The only real disadvantage is that it uses two over-centre clips to hold the front down, one on each side of the windscreen. This makes it a bit slower to erect and the latches protrude and create wind noise.

I can't think it beyond the wit of man to devise a system like the MX5 where there's a single central clip that can be operated from the driver's seat.

I remain convinced that it's not beyond the ability of MMC to create a watertigth hood, rather it's the case that they don't think their carss should have hoods at all and only offer them as a sop to people who insist on be able to drive in the rain without getting wet.

The hood on the S5 is essentially a mix of ingredients from a Trad nine stud and a camping tent. I watched two factory elder statesmen put one up at Shelsley and it would have made a good comedy U tube clip. I have no problem with the hood, but I really don't like the lack of elbow room, and the long stretch to the pedals.
The forward rear axle position was the default trad position until 2006. Not sure from when.
Since the Aero rear axle is mounted on a subframe, I would think that this is a simple matter of subframe mounting position. If the holes are predrilled using a template, they should all be the same.

Could do a lot worse than simply copy the MX5. I really dont see why modern soft top cars have to have a mechanised roof. All its adds is weight and failure modes.

There are two different situations arent there? With the trad still having ridiculous side screens flapping about there is no sure way of ever making a watertight seal. The Aero should be watertight though to be fair to MMC I have yet to own a 100% watertight soft top.

When the Trad side-screens are properly adjusted, they don't leak or flap. And the more hairy chested amongst us shun side-screens anyway. There's also nothing to go wrong with a sidescreen!

But as a softy I prefer the easy up (which isn't that easy) and I prefer to travel with side-screens in place.......
Shame on me I know. blush

My sidescreens do not Flap about or leak.

Neither did they on the Roadster or the original 4/4.

My Boxter soft top was fully watertight - and Pats MX5.

This is definitely an issue.

I've had two Morgans made for me and my biggest anxiety was that the rear wheels would be centred in the arches. I am not sure if my pleas to the dealer (to ensure they were) were ever passed on, but I got lucky and the wheels look fine.

I see so many pictures of Morgans with the rear wheels all over the place and I think they look most peculiar.

Is there a fix?

I wonder if the wheels centre under load? As the power is transfered to the road?

As for the roof the new MX5 roof is fantastic, Saturday out with the boss in her MX5 nearing a junction the rain increased to ingress mode. Less than 5 seconds to put it up and lock it, while we were on the move.

My 2010 roadster has its wheels forward of centre in the arch.

I would happily have an S5 not that my wallet would accommodate one, even with the niggles I think they are stunning.

My BMW 6 series convertible was a regular entrant at the petrol station car wash. Always watertight.
