That aside I'm quite pleased actually. I have little faith in this new coating which IMPHO will probably fail and lead to all sorts of aggravation in the nearer than farther future..

We don't really get the choice if we want the newer car !

I can't argue with that.

I wanted an MX5 box car so it had to be a 2013 Model Year on.

This thread is very sobering about how a trad can really go to crap underneath if the car's used (we can only assume this - the owner has recently got the car) in inclement weather.

If a galvo chassis is capable of pretty heavy deterioration in a relatively short space of time then it will be very interesting to see how these new units will hold up.

Most Morgans are not exposed to winter weather so I am thinking it's not really an issue.

I had a look underneath of my car and save a grotty exhaust clamp all is as new.

Well I've gone back through this and I am confused. My 2012 build Plus 4 has a black coated chassis - including the cross rails ahead of the seats. Now this is very odd given the first post - where 2015 was when these were introduced.

I'm just wondering if my car has had a new chassis? Given the pack of lies the dealer told me about the car, this may well be a possibility - that it was pranged as a demo car?

Getting a bit worried now!

Did the dealer tell not tell you it had been crunched?

If the car needed a new chassis it would have been written off surely??

Have a good look around the car. It will be easy to see it it's been apart..

All rather mysterious!!

DVLA should also be able to tell you as it goes on the log book I think.

Well the dealer told me that it was A1 and had had no paintwork done - but I have found overspray on the rubbers between the wing and the back wheelarch (and on a leaf trapped in there - quality job it was not!). Plus there were two missing screws holding the wing on. So something is amiss.

The log book says nothing. But it was made in 2012 and registered in 2014 and two years is a long time....

I'll have another look at the front chassis rails as these looked galvanised and I do have the photo build which I thought showed a galvanised chassis - I'll have a look. It could well have been undersealed but why would the cross rails have been painted (they have chrome covers)?

I'm gonna have a good investigate later

If the dealer crunched it and didn't want to claim they could have simply "done it in house" and never told the DVLA/insurers etc.

Thus it remains "clean" although it's been bent.

It would seem unlikely though. However how has it got a non galvo chassis being built 2012??

Have a good look and report your findings please...

Footnote - why did it sit for two years before being registered??

The story was it was a stock car built for a dealer that then went bust. The dealer I bought it from took on that stock a while later. Then it sat in the back of the dealership before being registered as a demo car. I don't know how much of thta is true btw....

It could be true.

Check the chassis number with the Factory - all will be revealed!

Aha, investigation complete.
I have a galvanised chassis and it is the same number as on the build record.

But, the cross rails in front of the seats is sprayed black (I can see behind the side panels that this is sprayed on top of the galvanised surface). So that's yet another permutation. (the rails are covered with stainless covers btw)
