Morning all.
1982 4+4
It started this morning fine and then stalled. The electronics then totally shut down. The only thing working are the hazard lights. The main lights are on a separate circuit to the ignition and even they are not working.
I have checked fuses and they all appear OK as is the isolator switch.
My thinking is that the ancient and never ever turned on alarm/immobilisor has packed up etc.
There is a key which fits a key hole on the side of the car and when I turned this to what I presume is "armed" and then turned the ignition on the rev counter jumped. Then nothing, so I disarmed it again.
There appears to be two ancient alarms fitted. One is called a "Selmar Electronic Alarm" and the other is a "Genesis 1023". Both appear to Victorian in origin. Why I have two I have no idea either.
Any suggestion or advice welcome. Ideally I really need to remove the alarms and it looks like a nightmare job.
I have some photos but can't work out how to upload them yet.

I hope you get it sorted soon. This is not the first time I have wondered if alarms and immobilisers are ever worth the bother, surely just as easy to put a hidden switch in somewhere or have a removable steering wheel?

Patience and persistence is what you need I'm afraid. Took me 2 days to get rid of an immobiliser from my other half's golf gti. They usually immobilise two circuits in as obscure a place as possible. On the gold they had interrupted the fule pump circuit in the loom under the passenger seat. Took a lot of digging to find that...

If you've a wiring diagram, you should be able find where the installers have cut into the loom for the immobiliser.
Given that the only circuit which is unaffected is the hazard circuit which would be needed for the operation of the alarm system, then its likely that its the alarm/imobilizer system that's faulty.
If you've the Kent engine with a mechanically driven fuel pump and a carb, then in theory the only wires the will have cut into is the switched feed from the ignition switch to the starter solenoid and the coil. These wires will be white/yellow
Hope this helps

Much obliged. It is a Kent, so this should make things easier.

Sigh...It may be down to a faulty connection at the solenoid and also a failing battery. I have fixed the faulty and connection and cleaned up the terminals and she is not fine. However, a good look at the alarm shows a mess of wiring and cheep connectors and the alarm has to go for peace of mind if nothing else.
Thanks for the advice, it pointed me in the right direction.

Well, that was strange. I removed the entire alarm and immobilizer yesterday and could not find anywhere were it was actually plugged in to prevent the car starting! There was a power input from the battery and a wire that ran to the the ignition in addition to the normal wire that ran there, not in place of it. Load of junk, badly installed.
