In reply to Aeroman's request, there follows a brief post on how I did the "C" type.

Ever since the Memsahib and I did the Mille Miglia I have been obsessed with the race, the cars and the whole atmos. As a Jaguar nut I was especially taken with the story of the 1952 race when Jaguar entered a "C" type with the then new disc brakes. It didn't finish but it planted the seeds of greatness.
Fast forward to the present and I thought it would be fun to try and re create that car as Jaguar had scrapped it, but obviously within much tighter financial constraints.
By doing a '52 car, I was able to use 4 wheel discs rather than trying to source drums ( and it shuts up the rivet counters)
It obviously had to be aluminium and for practical reasons it had to have a passenger door ( but so did XKC047 )
To get as authentic as possible, it has a Jaguar Mk2 solid rear axle with rose joints, torsion bar front suspension and a 3.4 XK engine breathing through 2x 2" SU carbs.
I contacted Jaguar Heritage who confirmed the correct paint colour, wheel colour and interior leather colour.
Working closely with the brilliant team at Suffolk Sports Cars, we sourced a genuine "C" type interior mirror, "C" type instruments and steering wheel.
The attention to detail is very impressive with the correct fuel filler, light fittings and many other bits.
I was able to have a heater fitted for winter use which is tucked away so as not to be visible.
As I drive the car, I am transported back to Brescia, it's just a shame I can't use it as it should be, but I'm a lucky chappy to have such a beautiful work of art. happy3

Simply stunning. As a true replica would it not be possible to enter it in the Mille Miglia? Certainly you would be able to enter it in the Caramulo Motorfestival regularity competition. That sort of competition is a lot of fun and you don't have to push harder than you want to as consitancy, rather than speed, is the aim in that type of event.

Reg, you have realized an absolutely cool project. BTW which colour code did you chose, and... is it an old school paint or a new water based lacquer? I know that the BRG of a C type is special and slightly darker than the average BRG.

Re. the colour choice, I expect you know that there are many interpretations of BRG from almost black to quite light green and even metallic.
Jaguar Heritage just confirmed that the colour should be BRG so I went through many colour samples ( in day light ) until I found a particular shade that
(a) I liked
(b) Looked most like all the '50's "C"'s & "D"'s that I have seen.

It didn't have a code but the sprayer mixed up a batch which was spot on, which resulted in a colour that looked almost black in poor light and a dark green in sunlight.
Due to restrictions on the use of "old fashioned" paint, it is a water based paint.
