...Jaguar used to make sporting cars combining refinement, grace and agility.... Sadly for them, the car market today requires reliability, economy and ease-of-use - unless you want a heritage car like a Morgan!

the XE, XF and XJ Class saloon and Estate are stunning cars, the F Type better than many a sports car, but because they are not made in Germany few people buy them. Their really stupid marketing policies are not going to help either. I have just been looking at the specs of the American model of the XE. I comes to an even higher level of fitment than the UK model plus it has a 5 year 60,000 mile warranty. Most models for the European market are speced down so you have to pay for options to bring them up to the same spec and they finish up costing at least 10% more. I'm pretty p...d off with JLR at the moment and it is not helped by the fact that one option I should have ordered can only be fitted during construction. I really feel deluded and taken for a ride on this issue and I really don't know that I would buy another JLR product. You would think that they would try to be more competetive, not less, in the big EU market right on their doorstep. Having said all that it is a matter of mixed feelings as I quite enjoy driving the car.

But in spite of Peters comments they do sell very well! I'm a JLR fan....my Disco Sport suits me well and I enjoy the elevated driving position. It's been a paragon of reliability too....which I didn't expect. It suits my current lifestyle. But then....each to their own.

Never owned a Jag, but I'd certainly have one in preference to BMW or Mercedes. I've always liked Land Rovers, but I confess the current urban bling styling of many is not for me.
The E-Pace looks like it would be very attractive, better yet an H-Pace hybrid if there ever were to be such a thing.

Once upon a time a 4 seater family car was no bigger than an Austin 7 Ruby.
In 1946 Mum, Dad, Grandpa and Grandma used one to drive from Barrowden in Rutland to Exmouth on holiday, it took 2 days....
Now the E-Pace and Audi Q3 are considered "small" and Google maps suggests the same journey would take 5 hours, avoiding Motorways. Using Motorways only 3hours 20 mins.
As a kid we used to holiday in Cornwall, Dad drove the family Ford Zodiac from Claygate to Redruth, using the A30 most of the way. We used to leave at dawn and arrive in the late afternoon. Today the same route is predicted to take 5 hours, so leaving at dawn we would be there for lunch!!!
This is progress, I suppose.

It's rather unfortunate that Jaguar has to follow this path to survive in the modern world.
Call me an "old git" but I stopped being excited by Jaguar years ago with the exception of the last XK8 and the current F Type.
If I had to have a roof, I would have a Mk2 in a heart beat. Agree 95%, but a pal has the saloon that was concurrent with the XK and I admit that its a nice place to be. But even worse than Jag prostituting itself with an SUV, what about Aston doing so!
