I fitted Librands Mk 3 door checks when we got Tarka. The Mk 3 fits over the upper hinge and when the door is shut it tucks away nicely.



And with the door open....



The only problem is that the 2 wood screws used to hold the bracket to the door frame are limited in length because of the bolts that secure the hinge to the door. Over time this proved to be a weak point, made worse by my choice of stainless steel screws that over time fatigued and broke off inside the wood.

The first repair was to glue hard wood dowels into the frame and use new screws. But it was still difficult to get the door bracket as tight as I wanted, so that no movement was possible.
Inspired by "Red 3" I bought a packet of "Inserts", thus:



These have a coarse wood thread on the outside and a M5 bolt thread on the inside. They are fitted using an Allan Key, which goes into the insert above the M5 Thread.

I drilled out the wood dowels, then soaked the holes with PVA Resin glue and left overnight. Fitting the inserts needed a fair bit of effort, I used an Allen Key head on a socket drive! This is the inserts fitted.



Then when assembled with the bracket fitted this the look:



The bracket is very firmly secured, with no movement between bracket and door card.

Overall a big improvement. I'd recommend that anyone using the Mk 3 Door Check uses these inserts from the start, and will be suggesting to the makers that they include them with the kit.

Nice job, Peter. When I fitted the Librands door checks to my trad I used a similar approach. The inner end mounts to the under-scuttle roll bar, and I used nutserts in the roll bar.

Very nice, I think I would have splashed out on some nice hex drive set screws to make it really neat.

Where did you source the inserts, could be useful in the 'Come in handy box'

Keith, thanks, yes button headed hex drive bolts are the plan, but the only source I found sold them in packs of 100. I would by 25, but not 100.

Peter, you could try A2A4 Fasteners or Stig's Fasteners for assorted bolts and screws in sensible quantities.

For small quantities of fastners I always use Namrick, I have always found them to be excellent.
