The pin chuck tends to produce pigs tails of plastic and I drilled from below. So it ended up on the bench. A quick shake and nothing came out.

Use pulse width modulation to dim leds not a normal pot.
You can get led dimmers exactly for doing that job.

Mark, the standard bulbs in the speedo & tacho also don't alter much.
For me it isn't an issue.

You can get led dimmers exactly for doing that job. I'm finding that the ones I am using are dimming in the Morgan. I know the conventional theory is that you need pulse width modulation but the pot used in the Morgan does seem to work. They already have a small resistor attached to the back of the LED and I suspect that the bare LED is actually designed to work at a lower voltage so the resistor is required to reduce the current to a manageable level.

Good news. On the trip to Gaydon, a cold morning with mist and the heater on, the oil pressure gauge and temp gauge did not mist up. The voltmeter only misted when I put the sidelights on, and only slightly. The fuel gauge still misted but only a thin layer. So a big improvement with a couple more tweaks needed.

How about one of those little computer fans, blowing air over the backs of the gauges, it can even be switchable?

A possibility Paul but unless the air was ducted in from somewhere, a fan would only recirculate the air behind the dash. So first I'll try more holes!

Phase two: First the voltmeter. Underneath, first I removed the Reflect-a-cool foil then added three additional holes. I reapplied the foil.  On the top I've added two more holes and enlarged the other three.  The fuel gauge will be the real challenge. Underneath I've added three large holes and enlarged the existing hole slightly. There's nothing in the way inside.  On top its harder, because there are things in the way. I've added five more holes, but the sizes are not consistent due to obstacles inside.  So now I await another opportunity to test. I really need a cold morning................
