I feel I've made a big mistake selling my +8. Among the many small reasons that mounted up and urged me to sell the car, were a few niggles from the "big project". We have now sorted them out, and I'm just in from a test drive... it drives better than it ever has, and pulls like stink! (even with the Cats on that really slowed it down). We were having a few issues with the revs sticking, and so we re-fitted the standard ECU, and it revs, sounds and goes much better!

I always thought I would be able to get my Morgan fix in my dads, but it made it worse borrowing someone else's!

I think I will be buying another +8 sooner than I thought!

I sometimes get the blues when the Morgan grounds out on a tiny imperfection in the road surface and contemplate selling up and getting something that doesn't ground out. Then I start thinking "I can always fit a slightly bigger radiused tyre when this set wear out" which might solve it. Then I just look at it and think "I'll keep it". I think it goes with the territory - for me anyway.

Hope you get back into +8 ownership again soon.

The Lucas SAGEM (GEMS) fuelling and ignition control system on the 4.0 cars has always been something of a mixed blessing.

When correctly sorted (and that means chipped on both fuel and ignition) and all the associated niggles ironed out, they do produce prodigious quantities of torque , better fuel consumption, as a result of more accurate control of the mapping .

However they are devilishly difficult to sort, and many here (and on other fora) have spent long periods of time and resources chasing this elusive goal

In many ways the 14CUX system that preceded it is better suited to the Morgan , it is less efficient, that is true, but so much simpler to understand and work on. If you do decide to look for another +8 I suggest you go pre-2002 and get "Hotwire"

I would suggest You get away from the Rover +8 and go to the Roadster with its modern Ford V6 engine. As I am a DIY sort I am thinking of changing My +8 Bitsa from Rover to Ford. Not because My 3.9, carbed Rover does not lack performance, but because I feel in this day and age I should have a proper environmental propulsion plant. Also and engine that is being produced today rather than yesterday. I know the 3.9 V8 is a delight to drive and sounds like a V8. I have driven the Roadster V6, like it, but it is different for sure. With the V6 I learn to shift, and use the higher RPM's for power. But when I have engine troubles I can visit a Ford Dealership. This probably not a big deal in the UK where Rover has support. But in the NW Corner of the U.S. it is a Big Deal.

I have a junk yard 4.0 with Fuel Injection. Then I learned how difficult it is to convert the GEMS ECU to a Morgan and further if I decided to keep the 3.9 to use the GEMS unit. I certainly could not use the ECU. There are lots of ECU's that will run the engine. But I think it takes a Battalion of Engineers to design one that would do the job. Easier and cheaper to change engines.

Solution:
1. 195/65 R15 tyres
2. SSL front suspension
3. SSL 5 link rear suspension

drive drive drive

I thought I had sorted it.. after 20 miles it started sticking at 2000 rpm! Mark Adams to the rescue, I spoke to him last night, and he said he would squeeze it in this weekend, so it is currently on its way to Shrewsbury!

I miss my, 911 1979, 911 2002, Fiat Coupe 20 V Turbo, VW T1 Samba bus, and love my 4/4 1984. Regrets, shows that you did good choices. You will probably continue to do so. Cheer up.
