Emil was inspired by Graeme at the Georgia convention in May. He has been developing the idea and now as a finished product. End results are box oil temperature never exceeds 150 degrees. For those of you who are concerned about bevel box noise, by maintaining lower oil temperature noise should be decreased sufficiently. But, not all noise is from the gears in the bevel box. Squeaking noise is usually related to the belt aligning with the rear sprocket. This is a whole other issue to be addressed (Emil spent better part of 40 hrs realigning rear hub tire drive gear with bevel box to eliminate belt noise) First two kits are now available, pricing by Monday. If you missed it, here is the link to custom morgan page, its the last video on the page.

Excellent to see. While it makes sense to keep temps under control I guess we will find out from first adopters how much effect this has on BB noise! Did Emil get time to take any before and after noise meter readings?

I wonder if there is any kind of alignment rig that could help with that? Maybe a suggestion for Emil's next project!

It is very encouraging to read of all this work being devoted to BB improvement by such talented engineers.

The factory has gone quiet on this topic and so I hope that they too are working in the background on a permanent fix.

I do so hope that is the case.

As posted before there are many really good reliable proven systems out there.

But I guess MMC will want to develop their own.👍👍

Have looked at doing something similar but my feeling is that if the oil and hence the bevel gears are cooled enough to keep things quiet then the oil is likely to be well below a proper operating temperature. Could have interesting affects on the oil's longevity if the inevitable condensation that forms is not boiled off quickly every outing.
This is just a feeling, I've not done any before and after testing and logging.

i

I agree. It feels like a fudge.
Equivelant of making the engine run too cool to mask normal running temp issues.
Any feedback from people that have lapped the gears ?

Hi nippymog
I am in the final throes of setting gear positions after having the ring and pinion gears lapped.
Initial pinion position not 100% so have to get some shim material.
As always this bevel box has fought tooth and nail. Nothing is simple for a "muckanic"
However first impressions, feel and over optimism suggest some progress.
Hopefully will get to trial run this weekend. If it stops raining that is.

Will take the opportunity to try and get the rear wheel and belt alignment set up better.
Mine is an early car and i notice the belt is very close to if not touching the subframe cross tube when nobody on board.

Fingers crossed that at least the "screaming" is diminished to tolerable levels!

Thanks P964 - to me this makes more sense , fingers crossed !
That said , the extra oil capacity the cooler brings can only be a good thing.
Please keep in touch.
