After the Albert Ball Memorial run this year I’ve had several requests to do it again next year.

Originally we hadn’t planned to make it an annual event but maybe go every 5th year. However it’s a good excuse for a weekend in France so here goes!

I’m thinking of a more casual event for Fri 4th–Sun 6th May. I realise this is the Bank Holiday weekend but there are already other events either side which limit our options.

We’d base ourselves in or nearish to St Omer, arriving Fri for an afternoon run.

Saturday a run to the coast or local attractions (the hill climb that Ian Parkinson found last year sounded good).

On Sunday a morning run to Annœullin to pay our respects then a local lunch and dispersal back to blighty.

Please let me know if you’re interested and I’ll then start checking hotel options.

Here’s the plan so far for Fri 4th May – Sun 6th May, 2018

Hotel:

As per this year we’ll base ourselves at La Sapinière at Wisques, just outside St Omer.

The Half Board rate is €110 per night for singles and €160 per night for couples. They have 12 rooms on hold so please book through their website and mention “The Morgan Club” in the comments section of the booking form. www.sapiniere.net

Crossing the channel:

I’ll be using the Chunnel: 10:20 outbound on Fri 4th and returning on the 17:50 on Sun 6th

Also, I’ll book into the Premier Inn, Eureka Park, Ashford for Thur 3rd.

For anyone using the ferry I'll leave it to them to co-ordinate sailing times.

Fri 4th May

Meet in St Omer town centre, Place du Maréchal Foch about 13:00 (local time) for lunch in one of the local restaurants. Most likely Le Gardian where we went this year.
http://www.restaurantlegardian.fr/fr

After lunch head to La Sapinière to check in and then an afternoon run ending up at St Omer Airfield for a beer.

Dinner at the hotel

Sat 5th May

A run out and about – destinations TBC but options include the hill climb, the coast, visits to WW1 & WW2 sites, boat tour (or hire) around the Etang…. any other suggestions welcome!

Dinner at the hotel

Sun 6th

After breakfast a back road run to the Albert Ball memorial in Annoeulinn for the laying of a wreath (over to you for this Mark H) and then onto lunch at a local restaurant.

After lunch - dispersal home.
