The Mazda gearbox rarely has any problems even in an installation it was never designed for, what could that be down to?

Because it’s one of the strongest, best gearboxes in the history of cars?

If I didn't own it already I wouldn't buy my Morgan. It has been in the shop for 2 months waiting for new exhausts to be built. I just found out today that they will be built in November. Maybe I will get it back in November. That would be a 4 month repair.

The last time it was in the shop for an engine rebuild and new exhausts it was also a multiple month repair.

My history with it (a 2014 Brooklands) is
5000 miles - first mufflers crack, but I was on a cross country trip so I kept going
7500 miles - timing pinion strips, engine needs rebuild, both exhausts are broken, rear sprocket is wearing so I replace it with a steel one. (I thought this might be a warranty repair but nope, cost me close to $1000.)
9200 miles - exhausts break again (both at the same time, it is amazing how they always break at the same time)

I am now getting the extra mounts for the mufflers. Maybe they will fix the muffler problem, maybe not. I plan to get my old mufflers repaired so I can have a spare set just in case. I have my fingers crossed that the new timing pinion in the engine won't strip. I had thought S&S engines were reliable so hopefully the rebuild fixed it.

I bought it to drive it. If I am afraid it will break every few thousand miles it isn't any use to me.

The new brooklands silencers have additional triangulated bracing as well as new mounts to assist with the loading maybe someone will post a photo.

Ive had to get additional support sleeves welded onto standard pipes due to cracks and these are on a second set of pipes.

Good luck

Brooklands #33 here, I feel your pain, although I have to say that apart from the exhausts nothing else gave me problems.

Hoping that the revised exhausts, with the extra mount, are fit for purpose. Time, and kms added, will tell.

I have always thought that the length of the unsupported tube between the flex joint and the silencer was too great. In effect it makes the flex joint nearly useless because any vibration and engine movement has a long lever arm to work on the welded joint with the silencer.

I firmly believe that the new silencer mounting system if coupled with a second flex joint just ahead of the mounting would go a long way towards resolving the problem. Certainly if I had a pair of silencers that needed repair I would insert a flex joint.

Yes the engine seems almost the best thing other than the cam gear problem, by far and away it's the transmission of the power and exhaust issues which as far as I read are still very "live" issues after several years of production.

I don't believe this would have happened on Peter Morgan's watch he was a man of great integrity.

Yes the engine is great and it defines the cars character. But if the car had happened with Peter Morgan at the helm....he would have undoubtedly opted for a smaller engine. The peak torque pulses (in region of 1150 ft/lbs I believe) are too great for the transmission's longevity.
