Its the old problem......dealers need a big lump in a vehicle, especially to hold it there a year or so, if you have big Ba##s start with a 1/2 way bid and come to a sensible agreed deal, you will soon find out its cost when he/she says "no sorry just cant do it"

the Ferrari dealers wanted 20/25k on my car at 100k overall, so I guess it would be much the same on an Aero.

It depends whether you are selling it on a cash purchase deal or an SOR deal. Bowler Automotive near Banbury charge £1500 plus VAT on an SOR deal and even that is negotiable as I know from a neighbour who sold his Porsche through them!

My McLaren has just gone to a Dealer on an SOR basis and the deal is more than that, but nowhere near the figures mentioned for cash purchases. I’ve had Morgan’s sold in the past by a Dealer on an SOR basis for circa £1200 including VAT and even less for my M3W! coffee

I have a Caterham on SOR currently at a cost of £1200 + VAT and earlier this year SORed my Morgan Brooklands through a dealer for £1800 + VAT.

I would never use S.O.R...had my bum bitten with a £22k X5 years ago....no car and no money returned and you havnt got a leg to stand on if they go bust.

The afore-mentioned Bowler’s sell circa 100 cars per month on SOR and much of the top-end car sales are done this way, even by McLaren and Morgan Dealers.

It’s useful to have a simple contract with the trader wherein they agree to pay the proceeds into an escrow account and make a transfer to you on the same day the money hits the account. The contract will also spell out the ownership of the car, which you retain and I also keep the insurance going even though most garages have their own insurance.

Any garage unwilling to comply with these basic requests is not worth doing business with... Sorry to hear you got stung though Dean.
