My car seems to be about somewhere between the two pictures in width!

I was told that 4/4 had a narrower frame than +4, Sporster and +8 until about 2010.

It's not easy to figure out this and it's probably the way it's with these cars! Undoubtedly, it is a pleasure to own, drive and work on the car.

Maybe if you have an engine number you can read off the cam covers or somewhere we can find out the cubic capacity and model for you oylo.

My challenge is not the engine. It is a Duratec 1.8.
The challenge is that when I order parts that are specific for a 2005 4/4, I may occasionally order these for a +4 to fit.

I see - do you have a frontal picture of the car it would help us - all Plus 4's I have seen have a badge on the rear deck saying just that.

It seems to me that the only thing you need clarifying is the width of the chassis. You already know that you have a 1.8 engined 4/4 !

The cross head on your 4/4 will be narrower than the Plus 4 but of course that is at the wrong end of the car for your measurement for the panhard rod! I'm not sure exactly when the chassis became a standard one for all models but I do know that Budster and I spent sometime measuring our respective cars and realising a cockpit width difference between his 1.8 4/4 and my 2009 Roadster.
It may well be that your car was built at that crossing point.

Could it be a Lowline 4/4?

Thanks so much for quick response.

Conclusion:
I have a 4/4 with a chassis (frame) equal to +4. The only difference between the cars is that the +4 has wider wings and cross head + a 2 l engine.

Hope I have understood this correctly?

In 2005 I understand that the front frames were standard across the range. That frame is still used on the 4/4.
The wider frame first came with the Roadster Sport in 2010.
The 1800 Duratec was only used for short period but is quoted at 125 bhp which means that it might be the best 4/4..... thinking

Possibly in part due to diff ratios used but I have chased a lightly tuned 1800 4/4 owned by a friend and whilst I have more outright power there was very little difference in real world performance. I have to say I was quite surprised.
