Does anyone have detail photos of the door post to frame connection area including the rear wheel arch either with & / or without the panels on for a 49 DHC? The previous owner had remade this timber but I know now that it is wrong. Fortunately the car came with the remnants of original timber in a box which together with a copy of the original factory drawing and a Swedish rebuild set of sketches has got my new timber most of the way home. I've got pics of another Aus rebuild in progress which may work but are not as it should be.
Quirks uncovered from new include the door posts lean out 15mm & 1 door is 7mm wider than the other but still enjoying the challenge !!

I have a copy of a the factory timber drawing dated 18 July 47. Is this the one you have? More than happy to send you mine.

Cheers,

FYI, Brian Nash in Perth may have some pictures or advice that could help. He was instrumental in my DHC restoration.

Cheers,

Thanks Mark but that's me as I've finally got the stalled ground up rebuild well underway. If you could send me a photo(s) of yours for that area it would be great . I thought yours was the prototype rather than 1951 so perhaps is different in detail. Is there a there a rubber block between the end of the front wing and the rear wheel arch at the door post ? I assume the hood photos with measurements all worked out for your remake? I have the same drawing which takes much forensic hair tearing to understand.

Mine is the prototype but why I have this 47 drawing I don't know. No, I haven't any rubber between my front fender's running board and rear fender on the DHC. The gaps is just smaller than a finger.

Unlike when I did the Plus 8, the DHC had no bolts between the two fenders. I used the rubber spacers (over the bolts) to hide the gap and bolts on the Plus 8. I did add the trafficators to match the photos I had. ANd, I added a period correct tail light for safety.

The photos and measurements on the hood were most useful in understanding the construction of the front two bows. Both wood. I had to fabricate these. The rear most bow was metal and I had the frame although it was seriously rusted. I blasted it and power coated it. It is still rough but looks ok. I put a zipper around the rear window to help combat the Florida heat. It helps. I am tempted to add a puller fan behind the rad but want to be sure the old dynamo handle the amperage.

I still have no side curtains as mine are atrocious and each side is different.

I can send photos. Send me a PM with your current email address.

Cheers,
Mark

Oops, my mistake. The last bow is wood and the middle one is metal. I shaped and mounted the wood and then I had a professional upholstery shop cover the wood and make the hood.
Cheers,
Mark

I think I gave you a copy of the drawing . Thanks for the offer & I'll send you an email . I suspect MMC must have given the DHC's to the year 1 apprentices as a project with drawings to use only as an approx idea !
I'll let you know on the fan v's a water pump as we also have hot 42c summer days.
Any pics from others still most welcome.
