Pity about the large yellow dots . You would tend to get hot hatches tailgating ?

Ha..! Let 'em try..

I had a good look at an SS last year, and took one out for a drive.. What a blast..! Major fun, and as someone's said, possibly the best iteration of the 'sporting car' theme of the Trad range.

Slightly edgy, enough to hint Bad Boy in normal mode and flexible enough to trickle quite easily but when it goes, that engine revs around to your right elbow and is absolutely addictive.

Kev, it's like your 4/4 but with more attitude..! The hood can be sorted as and when if you can't get on with a button up.

You'll only know when you try one..

I have one of each type. The car with the old-style 9-stud hood looks far better with the hood down and has better over-the-shoulder visibility with the hood up as the rear plastic window wraps around the rear 3/4.

The new style hood is quicker to put up, but that is its only benefit. Hood up visibility is worse, and hood down it makes the car look like a pram. Furthermore, you either have to fit a hood cover or leave the rear of your tonneau cover fitted or else suffer a bit of flapping around from the folded hood.

Both are reasonably water-tight: The front of the sidescreen is where water tracks upwards from the gap by the front bracket on both my cars.

I certainly wouldn't pay £3-4,000 for something which is different but not necessarily better.

Outstanding feedback people as I expected...just waiting for Peter from Chesterfield, who is lucky enough to be married to a sensible Yorkshire lass, for his opinion.

I know he went through the heartache with the early ecu issues.

Somebody suggested as my 4/4 is remapped, has adjustable shocks, panhard rod, brake reaction bars, librands manifold and sports exhaust etc so in many ways similar to Supersports that I should maybe go for the throttle bodies and some good tyres and I would nearly achieve a similar package .

What do you think?

Having had both types I would say for looks the trad style wins both when up and down, when the tonneau gives a much better line to the car. If using the car as a daily driver then in our climate the easy up makes sense. That said I wouldn't want to spend that kind of money having a conversion - the trad type really doesn't take that long to put up.

I test drove a +4SS at the factory and immediately ordered a 4/4 Sigma (with the proviso that I would wait until the MX5 gearbox was 'productionised' for the 4/4).

WHY? The +4SS is not necessarily better than the 4/4 you have. It is faster, more planted and full-on all of the time, it goads you to drive it fast. If that's what you want, you will love it. But it doesn't have the delicacy of a 4/4 - and you can make a 4/4 bloody fast and still keep that lovely nimble feel.

I recently bought a +4 ss in the same colour as the one you are interested in and i am thrilled with it.
Over the years i have owned every model of morgan from the 3 wheeler to an Aero and for me the +4ss delivers everything i want from a Morgan. It is easy to check if the ECU has been changed , there should be a small orange sticker on the ECU cover and as i understand the Ecu upgrade was a warranty issue and i would have thought it had been done as this car looks very well looked after.
Yesterday i took my car down to Techniques to have the latest ECU flash upgrade which to my amazement was free of charge, all i had to pay was 1/2 an hour labour, i had this done because at the last MOT we struggled to get it to pass the emissions ( it did pass by revving the car to get the cat extremely hot). The car now runs so smooth with no popping when coasting, well it does pop and bang when you give it some (i had a bit of a race with an M3 on the way home) but when just driving normally its a joy to drive.Put a dateless plate on the car and it looks like a 60's racer but with all the manners of a modern Morgan...go on buy it,i guarantee you will love it !!

Even if I said to Kevfitz to go for the P4SS after having a test drive, for me personally my now 4/4 delivers all I want. She is so nimble and after a recent remap she delivers about 170 Nm of torque and 140 HP without stressing the engine, just taking out the limitations, a front wheel drive Fiesta needs to protrect her half shafts.

Regarding the TBs at a 4/4 I personally would not go for it unless you want to get all the power from the upper rev band only. The P4SS can compensate the lack of low torque due to the bigger ccm engine in relation to the total weight.

Good advice again...

I disliked the ARP4 with all the power at the top end and have similar figures to you Heinz after my modifications and I take your point that there is no substitute for cubic inches.

My 4/4 is certainly nimble and it is coming up to 3 years old on Nov 1st with no issues...nothing but fun fun fun.

Lots to consider..

Well for my three peneth the ARP4 promised everything and delivered nothing .
P4SS gave everything once the ecu etc was sorted still my favourite car, it does make you want to drive fast you just can't help it ,hence a speeding ticket .
3.7 is a very nice car fast and lots of tourque but not as nimble as the P4 and the clutch is too sharp.
Would I have my P4SS back , yes in a flash but would not part with my roadster so would need a bigger garage (her in doors still likes the P4SS the best ).
I know who has mine and will monitor the car for the future.
The launch of the ARP4 was the reason I traded mine in ...big mistake .

The green car I'm sure was traded in for the last unregistered Black ARP4 .
He was warned not to do it .
