Risking the wrath of those who’ve seen all this before long ago, I want to ask whether anyone has succeeded in reducing water ingress between the top of the windscreen and the hood (Trad hood, not the rather effeminate ‘easy up’). The wipers sweep the water to the top of the screen where it floods in when the airstream creates a gap. I suppose the hood has got a bit slack.

I’m thinking of fitting a (removable) profiled rubber strip over the poppers under the hood, tight to the screen. That would be a lot less fiddling that raising an easy-up. It’s purpose would be to channel the water away to the sides , not to stop the hood lifting. Which reminds me of a time when I drove at a fair lick to a golf club with an empty roof box on my tin-top. I didn’t glance at it when I strolled onto the golf course, but halfway round I saw a huge plastic fish sitting on top of my car. It turned out that the air had forced the box open and expanded the gap to be a huge fish’s mouth, about 18 inches high. That rather spoilt my concentration, as I could picture everyone laughing at me when I got back to the bar. Needn’t have worried though, this was near Strasbourg, no-one laughs there.



A bit of black duct tape solved that, and I might try that on the 4/4 one day. Anyway, where to source various profiles of rubber, please anyone?



If anyone would like to suggest that I trap a length of cycle inner tube there, and then pump it up, I might give that a go; where could I get hold of an antique rubber bulb that would look good dangling around the mirror area, please?

Just a thought and it could or could not work . How about a long strip of thin rubber like a tyre tube cut it into a strip the length of your screen where the studs are make a hole just big enough to cover the studs and just a fraction beneath the chrome inside and outside . Maybe on the outside the rain may not get past as the rubber touches the chrome and the hood . A cheap fix if you can pick up a tyre tube at a garage . Shame you are not up N.E. there is a rubber shop a stones throw away gave me a large sheet for peanuts and used it to put behind the brackets on the wings etc. The strip can be popped in your door pocket .

I came down from the top end of Scotland years ago it chucked it down all the way rain under the screen and got under the wipers so was running down the back of the dash onto my lap . I was soaked on getting to Edinburgh shot into a garage for petrol . As I swam in I asked the kid behind the counter " have you got a loo " . He looked at my crotch area soaked and started to laugh . I said "I drive a Morgan it rains in ". He had not a clue. Not a lot of fun driving several 100 miles with wet pants .

What! An Englishman who puts his hood up in the rain! Things really have gone to pot. Personally I blame it on Morgan for selling traditional English sports cars to that effeminate lot on the other side of the Channel.

Peter this in English rain its Wetter than the rest of Europe's. You only have to get caught in it to find out, been soaked many times , what the tin top lot are unable to work out. Is they love to grin at you when you are soaked so I wave and give them a big smile they look at me like I have lost my trolley and there smile goes it makes me smile more knowing I won.

Wear waterproofs. Motorcyclists have done it for years...

Seals+ direct are very good - they have all sorts of profiles and do cheap generic versions as well as oed stuff at a fortune. The great thing is they will send samples before you buy.Delivery is very effective when I dealt with them.

Seldom I drive with the roof on, and then its not a problem that water gets in through the corner of the windscreen. I'm more worried about all the water coming throught the bulkhead or chassis making my feet wet.
But to me its part of the experience.
If I want a waterproof ride then I take my Fiat Doblo Cargo, it has roof and everything :-)

4mm standard density neoprene strip stuck to the hood along the front edge will stop it.

My +8 was fitted with a full length velcro strip glued onto the rear of the top rail of the windscreen and the flap on the front of the hood that folds behind the top of the windscreen. I have found it an extremely effective solution and far better than rubber or neoprene.

The problem is the airflow pulling the hood up thereby exposing gaps between the students fasteners through which the rain water enters the cockpit. The velcro secures the hood much more firmly.
