I did it on a 1997 +4 short door following GoMog advice & a UK plastics company cut them for me. I had to break the old units to get them out. The new ones went in OK. I still have two halves but they won't fit your car only a short door. http://www.gomog.com/allmorgan/sidescreens.html#Replacing

A personal choice when it comes to material selection but if you do decide to change... From a safety perspective Acrylic (or Perspex) can shatter when impacted. Polycarbonate (or Lexan) does not and has a much higher impact strength but can be a little more expensive

Polycarbonate sheet is harder than acrylic/perspex, but it degrades in UV light, turning amber, so has no more than 10 year life. I found this interesting comparison on the web: http://www.cutplasticsheeting.co.uk/blog/2013/11/29/acrylic-vs-polycarbonate/It has left me completely undecided about the better material for the side-screens!

Just use UV resistant or UV stabilised grade of polycarbonate.
Preferable to a having a material that shatters next to yours and your passengers face, IMO
