I've been asked, by my pal Ian, to see if anyone knows what happened to his Morgan 4/4, 604 PKT.

This is the car, brand new in 1961 and then in the winter snow of 1963....

It was delivered by Morgan to the Tonbridge Motor Service Garage in Kent in mid 1961 for commissioning and onward delivery to Ian and he drove it in London, West Kent and East Sussex for a couple of years.

Ian sold it in the spring of 1963 when the Army sent him to Kenya.
It was seen by a friend of his on Salisbury Plain in 1965, but he was on an exercise at the time with him. He contacted me by radio but he could not stop operations to hunt for her although her reported location was close by! Very frustrating.

I've sent a request to Gill at MMC, but thought I'd challenge the team here, as well!

That Morgan looks tired after just 2,5 years! It lost its bumpers and the hood looks floppy, maybe just an "unlucky" picture!
You also can try and ask Hermen Pol as he has access to many archives!

Unfortunately this 4/4 Series III is not known to survive. It would be one of the very few. It is not impossible that it went to the USA at some stage, or that it still lingers in a South England barn. Morgans seldom are lost forever.

Or it could still be road legal in its country of origin but with a different registration (as is mine).

I checked on chassis number in my records, but didn't find it as surviving.

The original reg is not currently in use which suggests it died with the car

I asked Ian if he has the build number or chassis number, but he does not. Keeping that sort of information wasn't important to a young Parachute Regiment Officer.
He left Sandhurst in 1960.

He told me that the bumpers went as "not sporting" and in the end the screen went, replaced by Aero screens, but was put on hastily for that winter.
He claimed that the hood was used only 4 times in the 2.5 years he had it. A "proper" Morgan driver!
He also mentioned that in wet weather water came up between the floor boards...

Another mod was to the gearbox, the car had a remote shifter in what we would now call the "normal" position.

The car was Connaught Green, the colour in the photo shows the degradation of colour film over the years.

I could find the chassis number, thanks to the agency to which it was delivered. They didn't sell many Morgans and only 1 4/4 Series III. Of that type of Morgan (with originally the 997 cc engine fitted) only few examples are known to survive.
