They are confusing... I think I posted last year that I nearly put diesel in my +8. I pulled up at a pair of pumps that were only diesel - one had a green handle and I assume one was petrol. It wasn't.

I spoke to the girl on the till saying that I nearly put diesel in "oh yeah, that happens a lot at that pump'. Brilliant.

Shape could be a distinction as well as diameter. If a mistake is easy to make it will get made.

The medical world also needs to act on this.

Of course the answer to the problem is dead simple; diesel fuel should be dispensed with the trucks, away from the petrol forecourt. Diesel ruins good shoes.

I very nearly put V Power diesel in the M3W in the summer, can’t remember what stopped me, probably the size of the nozzle! So easily done.
Anyone know Diesel Dave from Devamog? Filled his 4 seater years ago with diesel and the nickname stuck!

Done it twice once years ago on the return from Scotland loaded with a strong cold . The other last year down at the factory and looking for a petrol station . Just a thought why don't they put a small flashing light in the pump in front of you Petrol , Diesel to attract your eye.

And be careful in the USA if you are from Europe. Green is diesel, black petrol!

It's an easy mistake to make but like marrying the wrong one you normally don't find out until it's too late my friends tell me and it can get expensive.

Well done assisting the lady.

I've done it once in my previous silver Golf TDI, but got away with it as I only put six litres of petrol in.
After filling the tank with diesel, I took it easy until half tank remained and then filled it again.
The only effect was a slightly higher tickover until it worked through.

As Tim said, it's about doing one thing and thinking about another.

I put a few litres of diesel VPower into my daughters Yaris. I was having difficulty getting the nozzle in and spilling fuel when I realised that I was being a complete idiot.

I then filled up with Petrol! No harm done.

I was talking to an RAC guy draining a car at a local petrol station and in chatting discovered that the petrol/diesel mix removed costs 50% more than the cost of fuel, per litre, to dispose off as there is no market for it. So it is simply incinerated and converted to CO2.....
Another very good reason to avoid the mistake, in effect you buy the fuel, pay 150% to have it removed, so close to £3.20 a litre and then it is all converted pointlessly to CO2!!

We should donate it to the Army for the tanks, I was told they can burn anything https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIRwsKzIPf0
