Thanks for all the input. You have provided some good starting points. Tomorrow, with help from a couple of experienced and knowledgeable Morgan owners we are going to tackle the problem. Will post the outcome for future reference.
And glad to hear that my problem reading the wiring diagram was experienced by someone else and not due to that last glass of merlot.

That is a cable loom build diagram not a wiring diagram as such as the various bits are missing off the ends of the connectors it's about as useful as a chocolate teapot
