That looks like a Ford MK2 Cortina or Escort MK1 gear lever.
Had the plastic thread strip off in my 1600E Cortina in Antibes in 1980.
We ended tying it into the gear box with string and it lasted thousands of miles, just had to be careful I didn't hit reverse by mistake.

Having recently stripped mine to change gaskets etc. I can confirm it is a 4 speed single rail light duty gearbox as fitted to all Ford Mk1 / Mk2 Escorts (excluding RS / Mexico and Twin Cam) and some early base model Sierras.
All Type 2 gearboxes have integral bellhousings. Cast iron bellhousing / maincase with alloy tail housing. 7/8" x 20 spline input shaft.
Oil capacity 0.9 litres.
Standard oil grade SAE80.
I noticed on my gear stick that the plastic "bowl" (as can be seen on the photo) was wearing....I don't think you can get these directly...??

If you careful and LUCKY you can recover the thread by cleaning with a sharp junior hacksaw blade.
.+8 Now gone for a 1800 4/4. Duratec in bright yellow.

Hi Mark,
Since you have it off: I found the fitting of Librands' shorter Quick shift a huge (!) improvement to the standard gear lever on my 1996 1.8 Zetec 4/4. No more erratic poking around among the gears!
4/4 1996 1.8 ZETEC Silvertop It has Swivel Pivots and an amazing Umbrella Holder!

That looks exactly like the gear lever that leapt out into my lap once when I was halfway up the M1 doing 70mph. 1600 (I think) coke bottle cortina. Grease all over me. I managed to change gear as usual though just by poking it back in and stirring.
