Quite frankly, this is verging on a rant but what has happened to the patience and the rhetorical language on TM these days..?

Once upon a time TM was noted for being different from the plethora of other motoring forums out there. Simon is extremely reasonable and allows the forum to 'self-police' itself and get away from the petty and the puerile, and yet the slide down that slope is getting steeper and steeper over recent months.

It's a Morgan forum first and foremost, and the Morgan world is a very small one indeed. The forum provides opportunities for people to engage with others of a similar mind not within striking distance of fellow enthusiasts, but over recent times it's become a very angry and bigoted place.

It's now getting hijacked by people who don't own Morgans and never will, with loads of aggressive and negative languaged postings, it's getting abused with postings that are to many, on the very edge of either legality or taste, but what I really, REALLY miss is humour.

There are so many people on here that I speak with that miss that spark of humour. So many tell me that TM was such a fun place, and silliness abounded. We had puns, we had fun and we had times to make us laugh that took us away from the reality of the world and allowed us to bond.

I've made so many good friends through organising and attending TM events, and it's such a great invention that I really feel sad to see it being taken down a road that the majority don't want.

I won't quote specific posts, but there are a dozen posters here and abroad that very rarely contribute anything worthwhile for the rest of us, just come on here and berate anything and everything. If it's something that's relevant then that's fine, but a lot is simply just old men moaning at the world. It's become a drop in centre for the dispossessed it seems.

I have to confess I'm at the end of my tether with it all. Now, it may just be me here, but I'm finding modern TM to be a bit of a bear pit and it's simply grinding me down.

My Christmas wish would be for more tolerant language in postings, more humour and more on the lighter side of life. I would love more Morgan and motoring related postings, and less bigotry, less aggression and less attitude.

It's everyone's Morgan forum, and it's up to us to change. It may just be me as I say, and in which case the answer is clear, but I know I'm not alone in this.

Over to everyone else, now..

Well Steve, if ever I have sounded less than enthusiastic for the marque ,or for the owners here that ,living where I do I may never meet but value enormously,I offer an unequivocal apology. However there are posts that do make me wince so I agree with you too.

I see what you mean Steve, but to be honest I think you're painting a blacker picture than is the case.

I used to spend a fair amount of time on Pistonheads, but left when I found the general anti-intellectual, misogynist, and negative atmosphere became too distasteful.

TM is nowhere near that, and I don't think its likely that it will become so. If certain posters annoy you, then just add them to your ignore list. That's what I do.

My approach is to only read and respond to posts that are of interest to me. I have noticed some of the posts Steve but because I done read them, they don't upset me.

Steve. Any chance of pointing us at the posts you feel have made it a downer for you. Is it the opinions expressed in the Lewis Hamilton thread for example?

I thought the intro of the soapbox thread was a good move. If you have to get something off your chest then pop it in there. Anything in there is at owners risk.

I sort of agree that there is more social and robust negative comment appearing but it only becomes personal on occasion which is where I draw the line. The climate change thread has become slightly too robust but in context I am learning more than I do from the press and gogglebox.

The issue with the Interweb can be variations of language, education and background resulting in some statements being read in a different manner. You mean "A" and I read "B". I know I often do posts in a hurry to divert myself from work and clear my mind for a bit. Style of discussion is different and can come over as confrontational when written.

Perhaps we all need to begin to coach people ? If you think something has gone OTT then tell them and ask them/mods to move it to soapbox.

I believe it happened just after the fish jokes stopped, I blame the fish.

Its a yes and no reply . A lot depends on your mood and the mood of others when they read it . Some are just to starched and yes I have noticed humour dying . Some have tried to shoot me down but do I care or does it bother me " not a Jot" . You need a thicker skin I SAID SKIN and take each day as it comes live for yourself not others.

Here, here. Some people revel in looking for something to offend them these days. If there’s a whiff of possible compensation they like it even more.
