My brother went to his only Vincent Owners' club meeting on his newly built Norvin in the early seventies. They ripped it to bits saying he'd vandalised a great bike to build it. They'd all come in cars.

There was a similar thread on the TR register forum in April about Inter-marque snobbery when a TR driver was ignored (by a Morgan.....)

Watch it they are Southener's. Northen'ers speak to anyone . I got my mog tweaked up by a lad over that way, he told me it would take a while to get used to it . So was giving it a bit of a fun . Stopped their for a break and they looked at me as though a Mog is not allowed. I Drank my coffee rev'd the Mog and shot away with a big smile .

Mind you we went to Kirby Lonsdale on the Morgans at Windermere event and I remember the bikers over the bridge being very dismissive of me & my Morgan centenary jacket. hide

Maybe it is the stuck up Northern folk.

As for brand/model snobbery; maybe just an indicator of people with a deep seated inferiority complex?

Funny you say that... last Sunday I was out on my Ducati (1098s) to Helmsley. I was the only biker there (8.45am) 'till a group of five GS pulled up, I was blanked by all of them... Helmsley is a renowned bikers spot, and in all the time I've been going there (since 2005) I've never had that.

They're not all bad though... my dad has two and he chats to everyone, but unlike most GS owners, he does actually go round the world on his!

A number of years ago I pulled into a cafe car park on my Norton Commando 750S which was full of Harley Davidson’s. They were a friendly bunch as it happened and the other visitors were paying more attention to my Norton than the Hogs. I overheard one of the H/D owner say to his mate.......”maybe we should buy a Norton instead”. It made me 😊

In my Biker days I too found that if I rode up say to a cafe etc on my Modern bike/s with groups of bikers there I was ignored.

I do think Bikers can be very clubby and "closed" in groups - they know their mateys and the clan effect cannot let them break free!!

BUT if I was on one of my Vintage bikes they always attracted attention!!

Funny old world sometimes!!

Got to say as a long term biker and current GS owner, I havent noticed any bike brand snobbery at all. I even wave to scooter riders!

As for the HD thing, it does make me smile. They often come past underneath the balcony where I do race officer duty for the boats. To a man they are scowling, dressed in black, trying to look tough and "patch club". But whenever I have met any of them and stopped to chat they have been very friendly.

Which is not to say that HD bikes arent an abortion because they are
