This was a headline in The Times today but further investigation proved it to be the Trabant. When they were first built the waiting time could be 15 years. Production ended in 1991 but there is an active demand for spares which are readily available by mail order. Lessons to be learnt here?

I don't think they meet the emission regs now for new cars!!
But the bodywork is easily recyclable being a wood chip composite.

Well the emissions for the latest +8 are at the top of the list but perhaps not much woodchip to recycle. There was a chap in the Derbyshire peaks who had a collection of 49 Trabants some years ago, they could be viewed from the main road. The neighbours complained about the eyesore and he had to dispose of them to avoid a fine from the council. It was similar to a large collection of old grey Fergie tractors that a chap called John Popplewell kept in a field in the wilds of Lincolnshire. I would imagine they will have gone by now due to similar complaints.

Funny we had a chap on Llandegla moors who had a collection off CitroenCV6 in the woods he owned until the council made him get rid of them or face massive fines !

I knew Frank Sytner when he lived in Notts and he had a wonderful private collection. Not in his field though - these were Aston’s!
