Any ideas or photos of where the ECU is located for this model? Thanks

On my 05 Roadster as I recall it's behind the dash on the nearside.

In my 1999 / 2000 4/4 Zetec it was nearside behind the dash.
However its fitted inside a tray that's held by 4 special security screws from on top of the bulkhead inside the engine bay near the windscreen wiper motor and expansion tank. So you have to unscrew and lower the tray inside under the dash.
In theory the screws go into captive nuts underneath but mine weren't very captive and kept spinning so I had to get my head into the footwell and hold the nuts while my wife undid the screws from the top. Also the nut wasn't really a nut but a strange circular thing that was very tricky to grab hold of.
Good luck.

Bob, is that a Silvertop or Blacktop Zetec?

It's Silvertop but I think the layout is the same. Could be wrong though. The engine layout is very similar from Blacktop to Silvertop but MMC may have done more changes as part of the engine change as well.
If you look on top of the Bulkhead / Footwell area in the engine bay close to the winder wiper motor you can see these security type domed head screws quite clearly and that will be the give away as to whether your layout is the same.
Let us know when you find your ECU.

Hi Bob - thanks - yes those four security bolt heads are there exactly where you describe them. I can't get access without removing all the rubber covers from under the dash which are cable tied in place. I don't actually need to get at it, just needed to know where, as it is going in for "investigation and correction" ... with a local ECU guru. If anything comes of this I'll spread the news.
