I'm going to stick my head above the parapet now. I have owned Midgets, B's, TR6's and a Lotus Elan. I have often driven an MX5 and Audi TT. Our Roadster is our fourth Morgan and I like it because it is beautiful. I am not reliving a lost youth although the cars and the earlier years are bound up together. Simply put, the Morgan gives me a lot of driving pleasure and I love to see other ones.
I gave a stranger a lift recently and he told me afterwards that all the negative things that he had heard about Morgans were obviously untrue - he loved it too.
Morgans are not for "ordinaries". Most people haven't got a clue and believe one man's opinion be it written or filmed. I'll listen to Chris "Monkey" Harris and James May ta very much. Whilst I like Clarkson he spouts excreta and is a "modern" man into M series BMW's and other such 4 wheeled soulless washing machines.
As for altering a Trad please do me a favour. The sliding pillar must remain. It is the very essence of the car no matter how poor it is compared to say double wishbone. Likewise the ash frame. I do not want a Trad with some carbon fibre frame and improved front end.
Rolex have been making the Steel Submariner for 60 odd years. It is like a Morgan. The movement is excellent and has been improved but still automatic.
I'm sure some cretins argue that a five quid Casio is more accurate but who cares?!!!
I like new "old" things! If have a few classic cars and the Morgan is a brand new classic car. All the pros and no cons. You can't have a 30's style hood and side screens and expect it to be bone dry!
If I wanted a Z4 I'd have one but it's like a Constable vs a pile of bricks at Tate Modern! Horrible Crap!
You arrive in a Trad. You simply turn up in a modern.
