Mine was my brother-in-laws car that he bought in 1967; he removed the 100e engine and gearbox and installed a 1200cc 105e engine. Unfortunately, the car needs a complete rebuild but other than the engine and 'box is 98% orginal and complete.

Thanks - I found the number exactly where you said it would be, under the passenger seat near the transmission tunnel - almost under the lap belt mount. It can never be easy of course! My number is outside the ranges you mentioned. My number is A 655!

That's interesting because my understanding, possibly inaccurate, is that Series IV car chassis numbers started from B650. It's entirely possible that Morgan's chassis numbering was a tad hit and miss early on in the change from A to B prefixes. As an early Series IV yours was probably stamped with an A rather than B.

As well as saying that the Series IV chassis numbers started with B650 Ken Hill's book says that the last chassis number for the Series III was A648.

Yes, I noted the gap in the sequence. Perhaps a development car.

We will be taking the factory tour in January. I hope to ask someone there about the chassis number and specs.
I'll post whatever they tell me.
I have a lot of research to do because I'm starting a complete restoration. That should be fun!

Aidan, I think that you and I should exchange email addresses, etc as I will be undertaking a total rebuild of my 1960 Series II. The chassis number of my car is A552.

You may well find the Morgan Historic Car Register and Hermen Pol more helpful than the factory. Try contacting them in advance of your visit to the factory.
