I‘m just pointing out that Vredestein has changed the policy and will not be responsible in any case (insurance wise etc. after a crash) if your car is younger than 1990. Tyres are important and obvious when a car will be examined after being involved in an accident.
Perhaps the 4/4 is a particular case as I cannot see any other car produced later than 1990 using this tyre size.

Just the same as the Avon CR6ZZ. Not sure how Morgan got away with fitting it to the Narrow Body Plus4.....unless there was an exemption. Might of course explain why they stopped production of the model.

MMC could reactivate the production of the NBP4. The Dunlop Sport Classic is available in 185/70/15 and has an EU tyre label BTW a quite good one. It is really confusing, even the expensive Michelin XAS as well as the Avon CR6ZZ has no label. I‘m wondering if this kind of tyres does not pass the EU examination or what is the reason they are forbidden to drive with younger cars than MY 1990.

Just curious Heinz. Germany and Germans have the reputation of taking rules and regulations a bit more seriously than we do here. Being more disciplined if you like. I was wondering if that was the issue with tyres.

If the Sprint Classic is no longer approved for vehicles manufactured since 1990 that might be an issue

IF
- you were to have an accident
AND
- it was not the fault of a third party
And
- it was not your fault (due care and attention, speeding, etc)
AND
- the accident was serious enough to warrant inspection of the vehicle including the tyres
AND
- the tyres could be shown to be at fault and the proximate cause of the accident (as opposed to any other factor such as excessinve speed, poor weather, etc)
AND
- it could be demonstrated that this was a fault of construction rather than maintenance (under/over inflation, lack of tread, aged rubber etc)
THEN
- you could find yourself without insurance cover.

So a very low probability risk, but one with a high impact if it occurs.

Not an issue for my 1986 car, fortunately...

Vredestein sent their regional tech guy along to inspect my car after I spotted an issue with my 3 year old 185’s. It was quite a rigorous inspection with wheels off, pics sent back and loads of details about the car taken. They wanted the tyres back and offered me replacements but there was no warning that these tyres shouldn’t be on a 2006 4/4.

I would agree with your estimation about Germans. My point is that not everyone could be aware of this situation. And it is not Germany only. It will be a point concerning my next tyre buyng decision. The Morgan being a modern classic is really a special case.

Was it deformation of the side wall by any chance ?

No never seen any sign of the side wall anomalies. Both my sets were perfect in that regard. This was believed to be a random one off tread issue.
