Thank you. I hadn't seen those on TM before. I wonder why only one dealer's site (that I have seen) offers this? Of course, as the blurb says, they are themselves reversible, but applied to a Euro 4 vehicle they must breach Type Approval requirements.

Thank you John, I hadn't seen those either..
They seem to be sold as aftermarket tuning kits, in the same league as sports exhausts and LED lights etc.
From an owners perspective, I assume once you've notified your insurance company of every modification, that's it I guess. Would it affect the MoT in three years time.? I have no idea.

I do not know enough to be categorical, but as a retired lawyer (sorry) it looks to me as though these changes render the Euro 4-registered M3W non-compliant in the UK and EU.
On a slightly different tack, if the remapped ECU serves to revert performance to Euro 3 standards, why not offer Euro 3 owners the updated catalytic converter to cut emissions without the performance downgrade of the standard Euro 4 version?

If this is anything like normal 4 wheel cars MOT I think the only way around the emissions tests come MOT time is to fit an earlier engine.
A friend of mine has a very fast Pug 205GTI and to get rid of the CAT he replaced the engine with a 405 M16 engine which was of an earlier precat fitment date and this is perfectly legal.
The MOT tester asks what year the engine is in my Plus8 every year so he can check it against the testers data, if you present a newer M3W with older emissions results I would say you run a high risk of failure as it will no longer be coincident with his data tables.

My understanding is that the emmsions test is not required during the MOT for a category L5 vehicle (M3W).
