After nearly seven years, the Aeromax is gone - sold to a guy in Paris who had a fault-free drive back to France on Tuesday. Many thanks to the excellent BHM who brokered the transaction.

I will miss the car. I bought purely on looks and bought the wrong vehicle for the use I wanted from it - but being male, it took me some years to admit this. Now looking for something the swmbo finds more comfortable to get in and out of, a little less intimate in its seating arrangement and some more luggage space.

Now I've just got to resist the temptation to immediately do something stupid with the money in the bank. And spend more time driving the 4/4.

Found that bit quite easy - there is a real shortage of useable individual true sports cars. Plenty of very fast cars and plenty of not very useable supercars, but the sports car market has polarised into boring mass manufactured cars like the SLK on the one hand or the supercar and not very useable sports cars ( Trad, Elise) on the other.

I will be interested to hear what you decide to do.

It's soon going to be impossible to find a one owner Aeromax.

Stuart does the 4/4 look lonely on its own?

Nice car but not my cup of tea.

I can admire the engineering but I'd rather retain more of the original car and upgrade it accordingly. In fact that's what I'm doing with my own XK150 Roadster.

I'd be very surprised if the money from an Aeromax would buy anything decent from JD classics. Think of a number and treble it seems to be their pricing policy. wink

Well done with the sale Stuart!

Good luck with the search - always fun in my experience.

Well, it has some other British metal for company; a 998cc morris cooper and a Landie with a 4.4 AJ V-8 Jag engine hidden under the bonnet. These need a little fettling to be perfect, a little money spending and more time spent driving them.

I feel the same way Howard. Went to see a Huracan, what an awesome car but not even enough luggage space for a weekend away. I've had Porsche 911s before because they straddle the GT/Sports boundary and are very useable as a result - but the last three generations have left me cold. The new Vantage looks interesting - controversial for some, but to me the Mercedes engine is a benefit, not a drawback.

But then again, why do I want to drive too fast or impress people when an MX5 would give so much for so little?

If you want something comfortable, not ridiculously powerful but performs well and can easily carry luggage for two you could consider the Jaguar XE Ingenium 2.0 4 cylinder 250PS Turbocharged Petrol All Wheel Drive (Automatic).

Price is quite reasonable but you need to pack in a few extras to get the car you would want.
