LR Defender Works V8 70th Edition sounds interesting.
Only 150 to be made. 400bhp 5-litre.
If I had the money......... +1 The man maths work - it would never need replacing and would be capable of any task that the family required. Given a spreadsheet and half an hour and you could probably produce an argument that made it work out cheaper than a VW Golf. Don't forget you can convert these engines to run on LPG and (on a 110) hide the tanks by building the internal rear wheel arch bulkhead up to the window line. My 4.4 AJV8 JE converted 110 has the lowest cost/mile of all our little fleet - so the real-world maths works as well as the man-maths!

David/Brian - funny you should highlight McLaren, I have been looking at these - a late 12C & Spider especially. The swoopy front intake/headlights of the more recent models isn't my thing. I know it should be about more than looks, but I'm not sure I'd ever use the increase in capability of the later cars. Downside; £5k a year on a factory warranty on a 12C !!! Thornley Motorsport are now offering their own warranty on the 12C at £2,850.00 p.a. I don’t have personal experience of them, but McLaren owners experience appears to be good. Certainly their pricing on exhausts and other McLaren parts they have developed seems to be much easier on the pocket than McLaren themselves!
