I have had three secondhand Mogs.

My 94 4/4 was OK but plagued by hidden rust.

The 97 +4 was excellent but the Rover ECU kept failing as many others have noted.

The 2006 Roadster is excellent. Very comfortable as a GT & bloody fast if needed. However I am now on my second PCB. The cause is water ingress & for the second unit I am sure the failure of the cheap washer pipes & T piece didn't help.
But this is the car the boss loves to travel in & have driven down to the Italian lakes with no issue.

As Dave says the gearbox is a joy.

2014 Plus 4. Some similar issues to Peter...
- 3 x dash electronics failing, one "fixed" by MMC and now properly fixed by Krazy Horse
- water from heater box running under main ECU and onto driver's legs
- ditto water running behind engine bay fuse panel and onto driver's legs
- coolant leaks from badly run hose to water pump
- exhaust leak due to overtightened clamps
- rusting screws that hold the wings on
- failed heated windscreen
- power shower from between the hood and the windscreen, with extra jets from the front and rear of the sidescreens


But huge fun and I love it

Nick I did two things to solve that problem. There is not much space but you can fit a drain tube over the spigot of the heater box drain and run it down next to the ECU cover. It may be an idea to cut away an angle on the forward edge of the spigot so that the bent tube does not block it. It is possible to find silicon tube 90° elbows too (plenty on Ebay).

Fitting the drain tube is easier if the ECU cover is removed. You may need a security screw driver set to remove the cover. While it was removed I placed some thin self adhesive neoprene strip on the flange that screws to the firewall and the top of the footwell near the heater box. I left the forward and outside edges free so that if any water got in it had a chance to drain and could also provide a little ventilation to dry any possible trapped moisture.

2003 4/4: 42,000 miles
I’ve owned it for 12 years and 37,000 of those miles.

Fan relay
Fuel pump relay
Instrument control module
Rear brake slave cylinders
A Mulfab radiator, when the MMC one showed signs of failing at 32,000 miles.
New hood 3 or 4 years ago. Old one was getting really tatty.

+ Normal servicing.

On the face of it I would say that build quality appears to have improved.

Particularly the cabin area/ seats / hood.

BUT my 4/4 now with less than 2000 miles on the clock has endured ...

Numerous rainwater leaks from the scuttle, wipers and windscreen rubbers
Fixed thanks to Captain Tolleys creeping crack cure!

A throttle Sensor problem caused X water ingress.

A serious ECU wiring fault which took 5 attempts X the dealer to resolve.

So all up not a good end of first year report!

But I have learnt to put my Morgan head on and be patient.

It also helps that I love this little car!

I bought my 2007 Plus4 some 2 1/2 years ago and I had to fix the king pins the following winter at about 15K miles. But play in the pins had first been mentioned in the car's second service at 2 yrs and 4k miles!
While I had the front end apart I sorted the springs.
The only other issues are, I've had to replace the radiator due to it leaking, but that also seems common, and sort out the rusty foot tread fixing screws.
The car has now done 27K and touch wood, it's going great. Both exterior and interior finish is good and comes up well after a good clean. For a soft top the easy up hood is pretty water tight.
