Is that because broths are a meal and a drink in one, so the bar bill goes down?

I don’t mind a broth but in my book a broth is a wet soup with chunky bits of meat and veg in and pearl barley or pasta in so you can taste the different elements

Noodle soups are similar

But the thick soups I really don’t like are the ones where they’ve blended everything together to make a really thick quagmire so it all tastes the same and it usually consists of some exotic veg, beans and spices and just tastes yuk

(Maybe I’m on my own with this one)

I'm with you Stewart, maybe not quite as strongly. A proper Minestrone or similar is a lovely thing, but you have to go a long way to beat a decent Cullen Skink and they can be pretty thick.

I think its localised South Yorkshire.

Soft soles qualify. Hob nails or segs don't.

So where do DM's fit into that, they are semi soft but not the same family as Broths ?

As for soups being good you can put me down for a Thai Tom Yum Gai soup with a little chicken in it. Yum by name.
