We moved over to the EU design to allow border staff to easily recognise the design and so speed up checks. It makes sense when you are on the way into a relationship to show goodwill.

I have yet to see the plans for the increase in computerisation support and staff levels for the border force.

I doubt it would be needed. Passports are always checked on entry or exit from the UK so I don't see how anything changes.

What's really needed is universal microchipping. That way entry and exit would be like passing through a toll gate with a toll pass.

David Davies stated some time back that he had done DETAILED analyses for Brexit options. oops! Maybe a porkie!
He has since reversed that statement.
Maybe not preparing for tighter borders is a hint that we will keep free movement anyway and give in to EU? stirpot

Free trade and customs union mean free movement must be granted.
It is a condition that was established long before Brexit and I think it is unlikely to be changed. Don't confuse free movement with border control. As a member of the EU the UK has been party to free movement of EU citizens but has never been party to the Schengen Agreement which removed border controls within the so called Schengen Area.

David Davies also said that if Damian Green were to be sacked then he would resign. No sign of that either.
